I've been cruising around this site for ideas. Any suggestions on how one might strengthen the trunk floor at the bottom tier. Would like to be able to carry a case of beer or something heavier down there than a feather pillow with some sense of security.

Thoughts?

I have one here now that I thought about doubling the floor with another piece of aluminum. That or put some small aluminum angle pieces riveted to the underside of the trunk floor. You can buy angle 1/8 thick as small as 1/2 inch.

Add some coremat, and another layer of fiberglass, and it will support your car. Simple fix. Be sure to strip of any finish, and rough it up with 36 grit abrasive first.

I plan to add one of Eric Hansen's trailer hitches to my build. Strengthens the trunk floor (since I am planning to put my battery in the trunk) AND allows me to buy one of those cool matching trailers...

Maybe dumb question but will coremat adhere to aluminum? Then should i used a fibreglass mat product or a cloth as top layer?

I made a new floor out of .050" aluminum. It really made a difference.

I built a sub-frame out of 1" sq tube. It supports the trunk and supports the rear of the car. PM me if you want any more info or pics.

Thanks roadster. Looking at mine I cant see me having enough room for rear exhaust, but excellent idea.

If there are other ideas, remember...21574

No, that was a very logical question. You can now tell that I haven't received my 33 yet, and I made an assumption that the trunk floor was fiberglass, rather than aluminum. In that case, you had better follow the lead from one of the other guys, and make a new truck floor out of thicker material. Sorry if I caused you any wasted time and motion.

After playing with trunk floor and latch assembly I agree the floor could use some extra strength. Looks like some aluminum angle stock will work fine for my application.
