I tried to buy some parts from a guy on craigslist a couple weeks ago and he told me that someone was already coming to pick up the exact same parts. I know you are out there somewhere  . Anyone else in the process of building an 818 in or around Denver, Colorado? Or going to be building soon?

I'm in Golden and will be getting my kit thursday-friday. That is if Stewart doesn't drop the ball more then they already have.

Also Larry J W is local but I'll let him chime in with his own details.

I should be getting my 818 sometime next month. I have been on Craig’s list quite a bit looking for the remaining parts needed for the kit. The price of donors has gone out of sight so I went the route of getting a JDM front clip out of Hong Kong with only 24,000 miles. Parts such as a left hand drive rack and pinion, instrument cluster in English units and hinges are being sourced locally.

I’m west of Chatfield so feel free to PM me and stop up some time.

I'm moving to CO Springs in November, sadly my 818 isn't scheduled to be ready for about a year. Should have put down my deposit a lot sooner.

I bet it was you who beat me to a bunch of parts then. That is great to hear there are this many in colorado. I am still a little ways out from ordering my kit, so I have some time still to gather parts. My wife really thinks I should see the car first as well, so I would love to stop by and see yours sometime if you don't mind. I live off Parker road east of Cherry creek reservoir.

What's the donor situation like in Colorado? Are y'all seeing much salt damage (or maybe flood damage) on any of the steel parts? I've been thinking of picking up a donor here in lower Alabama to haul out there to avoid cars that have seen too much snow.

Colorado is saltless state.

Ya, if memory serves, it's the windshields that don't last in Denver. Stupid cinder.

Air conditioning companies everywhere thank you for your contribution to global warming.

LOL congrats, my kit is ready too, just need to find time to pick it up. I'm glad I didn't give Stewart any of my money, my experience talking to them was les than pleasant.

What is the issue with Stewart Transport? They will be delivering my kit in about 2-3 weeks. In my conversations with them over the phone, they have been nothing but cordial and helpful -- at least so far. What are the bad experiences?

Sorry that wasn't meant to be a stab at them. I just felt they were a little curt when we spoke, take it or leave it it felt. I have no actual bad delivery experience to go off of. Judging from all the deliveries so far seems like others have been happy. GUNS did mention his kit got beat up a little.

Anyone found a list of what equipment we will need to pass the inspection in Colorado, such windshield wipers?

Thanks for clarifying. Fateo66 above also seems to have had some kind of a problem. Based on his posts, there may have been delays which were irritating, or maybe he felt it cost too much. Based on the smiling face in the picture above, it doesn't appear there was any problem with the actual delivery itself.

We do need to be a little careful about what we say on forum, particularly regarding vendors who rely on providing services to us for their livelihoods. Sometimes a negative comment without a lot of detail can be really damaging -- more so than the actual issue which prompted it. Not preaching -- just sayin' :)

Agreed, that's why I was quick to clarify. I'll let fate066 elaborate and stop jacking this thread.

Wipers have been required for a long time. It has been a long time since I went through this with my roadster. If I remember, wipers, turn signals, horn, belts, parking brake, and the usual common safety items were required. You should find a more detailed discussion in the roadster forum, it will be the same for you 818 guys. Your local DMV should have a listing of the required items for the state patrol inspection.

Also, when you get to the point of applicaton for title, be sure that the title has "kit" in the vehicle description. It will keep you out of the emision stations as per Colorado HB 06-1176, which provides emission exemptions for kit cars in colorado. You can find a copy of HB 06-1176 on the mile hi cobra club website.

Harvey, I'm interested to hear what crazy motor/turbo combo your choosing.

I'm having Joe Hanna from ASF in Junction build me a sleeved street spec block with 9.5:1 cr pistons. I have also gotten a brand new one of the old 7cm hta68 forced performance turbos. I should see around 375 whp for a solid track day toy. I have a complete 05 sti as a donor and was about to ditch the transmission when I saw that it is now usable. Can't wait.

How is the fxt doing?

Fate's experience is the #1 reason we're using ANYONE but Stewart for our kits.

We have an R and an S due here in less than 4 weeks.

Not sure on the wiper thing. Can't require windscreen wipers on a car without a screen can they? Talking about the R specifically.

You will need a DR2408 http://www.colorado.gov/cs/Satellite?blobcol=urldata&blobheader=application%2Fpdf&blobkey=id&blobtable=MungoBlobs&blobwhere=1251771971773&ssbinary=true

A DR2239 is also a very good idea since VIN numbered parts were/are used in the contruction - http://www.colorado.gov/cs/Satellite?blobcol=urldata&blobheader=application%2Fpdf&blobkey=id&blobtable=MungoBlobs&blobwhere=1251770981087&ssbinary=true

It has been my experience that they will check for headlights, tail lights, brake lights, horn and a drivers side and rearview mirror and that is all.

Placed our order last week. Looks like about an October 2014 delivery estimate. That gives us plenty of time to check out local builds and source our donor car.

Sixstar, please let me know if they require wipers when you register your build. I'm going to be starting my build in about two months.
