I know David Smith gets a lot of attention for the very high ratings FFR receives and HE deserves them; and the team that David built. I watched and couldn't belive I could have picked this bunch ( FFR ) back when. The Jet airplane and boat were interesting but the FFR KITcars carried the show. I know the title of the show was KITS but I still like the "Componet car" name better.

Thank you Factory Five Racing, Art

That was a delightful presentation: one that I would have missed had it not been headlined here on the Forum. I think Factory Five can be justly proud of its Company, and how it has grown and matured over the years. FFRproducts are nicely varied and each has an exciting, broad appeal among those inclined to consider building their own car(s).. Having built my MKII, I can second absolutely everything I heard Dave and the Factory Five group say about their mission. I truly love my roadster and the entire process that brought my son and me to build it. That experience has profoundly changed the way I view automobiles. In my case at least, the FFR roadster represents a vehicle I have longed for for an awful long time, and it's only in the early 2000s that I learned the dream could be fulfilled; given time, money and effort on my part of course. It's that personal involvement with the process over an extended period of time that builds strong bonds. A bond that's not simply between myself and the car, but between myself and my son, and of course between myself and the FFR community, represented both by the Company and the builders on this Forum. Thanks so much Dave, Mark and the entire FFR Company for making this possible for so many of us. May you continue to grow and prosper.

Congrats to Dave and the FFR staff for the best PR piece I've seen about the best company in the industry. It made me proud to be a customer and to have built an FFR! . . . and, everything PierreB wrote, too.
Great job, Dave et al.

The show was great and I most enjoyed the spotlight being shined on the guys who MAKE our cars. I usually get the lion share of press and attention, but this time it was so great to see our crew: Kyle, and Mark, and Josh, and Fred, and Jerry, and Nate, and Kevin G., and Chad all describing what we do... Thanks for the stoke guys.

Hello Dave. Are you considering in the near future to have the show available on your website or forum for all other FFR builders that don't have access to speed channel? I will be very interesting to see it. Thanks.

Hey myrtille2004,
You'd be surprised what you can find online if you look in the right place. No, I didn't post it there.

Loved , Really loved the show !
(I recorded it and have seen it a couple of times now.)

I was also stoked to see a picture of my Black FFR pasted on one of the cabinets in the "Final Inspection" in the FFR plant.

I love FFR and I talk to everyone that likes cars about FFR, trying to share the joy that building a FFR kit brings to you and your family.

Keep up the great work FFR !

I realy liked the show and the focus on how the parts are assembled. One of the best I have seen in a long time.

All I can say is I'm proud to be a Factory Five Roadster owner and not anyone elses. These cars are the best and I will always defend my opinion. The team is team is the greatest and their technology is ahead of anyone else. Way to go Dave. Perry Stevens

I really enjoyed the show. Obviously most of the time was allocated to FFR with the jet and hovercraft getting the leftovers, but I wouldn't have it any other way!

The one thing I thought was just poor post-production was the timing of a comment and the GTM spinning out on the track. The said the cars accelerate from zero to 60 in 3 seconds, on par with the Lamborghini Murcielago but at a 13th of the price then immediately show a GTM spinning out on the track. So, it was like "The cars are a lot cheaper and you get what you pay for". I just wish they hadn't put that comment together with that footage. Hopefully I'm just too sensitive (and protective of FFR) and nobody else will notice this.

Oh, I noticed it too. I'm sure the spinout was intentional, to show how fun they can be.;)

I'm a bit surprised at all the manual labor still involved. From the fiberglass layup to the bending of the sheetmetal panels. It's good to see a way to use computers and automation for increased precision and tolerances, without forcing more American workers to the breadline than necessary.

It looks like a very organized operation. Something I'm sure your proud of Dave.

I'm still confused as to why they were spraying red gel-coat on the trunk surface, after it was removed from the mold? Shouldn't that be first sprayed in the mold before the glass layup is done?

I thought it was well done and enjoyed seeing a nice mix of the cars in action as well as good coverage of the manufacturing process.

Have to say though that I wasn't impressed with Mr. Easton's comments that "If you can work a screwdriver you can build this car" and "It's just like a model car kit". All of us who have built know that there is just a little more to it than that. Over the years on the forums we have heard from a few customers (granted, it's usually ones who didn't fully research what they were getting into) who entered into the project with this mindset and became disappointed when those expectations were not met. While you don't want to dissuade potential buyers by leading them to believe it is more complex than it actually is you also don't want to give them the inaccurate impression that it's gonna' be like putting together an ikea bookshelf. Lots of you who have been around the FFR community for a long time know that it's a pet peeve of mine so maybe it's just me. Curious to know if I am alone on this?

Anyway, congrats to FFR (and Fred! ;)) on some good exposure!

Jeff

I enjoyed the show too, now I see how the kits are put together for delivery. My question, why red gel coat, isn't that color hard to cover when ready to primer?

Having the show as a link on FFR site would be great to have.

$800,000 for a jet kit is wee bit out of my price range, but sooo cool.

The hovercraft/groundeffects vehicle was nice too.

The hovercraft/groundeffects vehicle was nice too.

That looks like it would be an absolute blast to cruise around in! Rough seas wouldn't be an issue as your floating above them. No pilots license required either. I wonder if there's room for a passenger in them?

I want one..:)

Can anyone explain this?

Dave Smith

They made a mistake. The red gel coat goes in the molds second, after the wax release. Frankly, I was actually impressed with what they got right! They covered alot of tech and manufacturing steps in a pretty acurate way (6061 ugh, gel coat ugh, a few other things).

All in all it was a fun show. They didn't use the out-takes of the cops after test drive (not the first time) but they did show alot of hooliganism with the cars (closed course for sure ;)

Great show Dave! Wow! You're getting major air-time in the last year! I love it.
