View Full Version : Anyone polish their Hallibrands?

I was curious if anyone has polished the entire Hallibrand wheel, and not just the outer edge, which I believe is the "normal" way.

If you have, and wouldn't mind posting some pictures, I would be grateful.

I am also curious if you treated the wheels with anything to keep the polished look, and how they have held up.

I am thinking of going with all polished wheels, and am just trying to be smart about it before I make a final decision.

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Steve

I'm looking for something to renew the polished finished edge on mine.
Mine are discolored to the point that simple cleaners and polishes dont work.

Steve, I know Vintage sells a fully polished pin drive wheel:

I know it's not a bolt-on but it will give you an idea of how it looks. I'll do a search of some old posts by Larry Johnson to see if I can find a pic of them mounted.

David-

Thanks very much for looking. That's the exact look that I wanted to copy, er I mean emulate. I thought the high polish and the brass spinners would be a good look.

Trigo also sells a polished set-- for extra money of course. However, they are at least available. I think it is a sharp look, and I appreciate the picture!

Nut-

I remained concerned that the polish will not hold-up, which is one of the reasons I asked. I don't want to have them refinished every couple of years...

Thank you each for replying!

Steve

Steve, you may want to check out the Rolite polishing compounds. If you have ever been to an airshow and you saw a restored North American P-51 polished to a mirror finish, that airplane was polished with Rolite. The Experimental Aviation Association has recommended the product for many years. I have not used it, but I intend to buy some to deal with discoloration of my aluminum components. The following link provides a good introduction to the Rolite products. http://www.aircraftpolish.com/specrolite.html#anchor801122

Dave-

They are really great looking wheels. When you mentioned Vintage, I presumed it was those that were in the picture. Thanks again for the clarification! I like 'em.

Austexan-

As a matter fact I HAVE seen a beautifully polished P-51; she was gorgeous!! The P-51 and the F4-U Corsair are my all-time favorite aircraft!! Thank you for the tip on the polish! I will add it to my build plan and ensure that I use it on my wheels before I get them on the road. Thank you for taking the time to respond! And, thank you for making me think of the P-51 again!

Regards,

Steve
