Are the raijins fully painted? Or does the face have a machined clear coated look? A look through several sites wasn't specific. What tire sizes might you recommend? I had been leaning towards 17" wheels, but I pause every time I imagine the Raijins on my 818. I seem to like wheels that are only available in 18s.

The HyperSilver Raijins are coated in a bright silver on the face and fade to a dark silver around the spokes and on to the rim. With the 18" F&R I'd go with the 225/40 Fr and 255/35 rear tires.

Will do! Also, I really like the black Raijins... I assume they're 5x100 with 40-45mm offsets appropriate for the 818? I'm in no rush for wheels, since I have a complete set from my donor to roll around the chassis around on. However, I will be buying new wheels/tires when I'm near completion (early 2014?)

Exploring all the options (Kojin), which offset are you selling for the front? I want to assume the 40, but noticed 45 was also available. Some 818 testing pics looked like the front wheels were too recessed inside the wheel well. Will the wrx trailing arms work with 17 x 9 rear, or would I need your modified ones? Thanks, both these wheels were on my short list. You have good taste Wayne.

If you have had a chance to gather an opinion, does your shifter change the shift feel in your opinion?

I'm running 45 mm offset on front and rear wheels. I can always push them out 5mm with a spacer. The lip between the nose and fender is very close to the tire and making the wheels stick out more makes it even tighter.

The shifter definitely changes the feel.

Could you describe the change in feel. Is it more honda s2k type where it is precise and easy or do you still have to muscle it a bit like the wrx.

I ordered Wayne's shifter kit "feel un-felt"... the k-tuned shifters have gotten very good reviews for smoothness and precision, and appear extremely well engineered and built, so jumped on it. I actually prefer a stiffer shifter/trannie, like on my Z (as long as it's precise), rather than a super light feel like Honda, Audi... A super easy shifter is nice for daily driving, but I generally prefer a stick that requires a bit of muscle for spirited driving.

I'm optimistic that the feel is greatly improved over the plastic Matrix/Corolla? unit that comes in the 818 kit. However, disregarding performance, the shifter is worth the money IMHO cause it's just so friggin sexy! I will not put a boot over mine, it will be the centerpiece of my cockpit, like on a Spyker.

Any pinch points on the shifter? Bootless would be cool but not at the expense of blood blisters.

What, exactly, are you planning on dangling in the mechanism while your right hand is grabbing the knob and shifting?

Sorry about the newb question. But do Enkei's require the use of "Tuner" lug nuts? Will the 17X9 wheels clear the stock trailing arm? Thanks.

You can use standard lug nuts. The 17x9" Kojins will need spacers to clear the stock trailing arms.

P.S. I won't put a boot over it, but maybe a sticker?

So the 17 x 9 " will not clear as is. Are they available in another backspace that would clear without additional spacers?

Goldwing

I am looking into kojins also, but the 17x9 size only comes in 45 offset. 17x8 in 40 or 45. So it looks like spacers or Wayne's custom trailing arms when they're available.

The 17x9 wheels will need spacers or in an offset not readily available.

The 17x8 in +40 will fit and support a 245/40-17 tire

Wayne Presley

+35's might fit without spacers. The 18x9 with +40 on the 818R needed 5mm spacers.

The 818R had stock arms I believe.

Thanks for the info Wayne. I should not really be that scared of the wheels, I have the 3" ARP bullnose studs on the hubs.

LOL . I meant if more if you were doing a fast shift and accidentally grabbed low on the lever and hard shifted could a finger get pinched in the mechanism.

You would have to really try to pinch something.

That's good to know thanks.

Sorry I am lagging on this. Being thinking about it for a long time.

What is your definition of "wide"? 255+? 225+ Combination of offset and width that would make it rub on the OEM arms? Other?

Basically my question is "why would we get your wide trailing arms instead of using OEM ones?"

Wayne Presley

If you run wider than 9" wheels you would need them

Excellent, I'm in. Will wait.

Where can I ask you your opinion about some parts? Here? In another of your thread? PM?
For example, you listed your awesome K-Tuned shifter with cables and brackets for $660 if I recall. What if one does not use the Subaru tranny but still wants the K-Tuned shifter, are you selling without cables/brackets? Are the cables still required to fit this particular shifter or any cable would do the job? That type of questions.
