I posted a few pictures of the sound deadening and heat shield install in my GTM. After doing so, it occured to me that there are a few new GTM builders that may not know that we have a vendor on the forum (Quiet Ride Solutions), that manufacture interior insullation kits got all factory five cars; except maybe the 818. I'm not sure if they've had time to make templates of that car panels yet.
In any event, I wanted to take a second to say that this insullation kit is well worth the money. I had originally bought a 300 square foot roll of sound deadener (dynamat without the name stamped everywhere) from my neighborhood hot rod store. I also bought the heat sheild material in rolls as well. When I started insullating the inside of my tunnel panels, I couldn't believe how long it took me to make templates, cut out the pieces and install them. I knew right then that it was going to take FOR EVER to do the rest of the interior.
I spoke to another FFR Roadster owner at one of the car shows, and he mentioned to me that he had used the Quiet Ride system from one of the forum vendors. He said that it went in fairly easily, and saved him a ton of time. And when you consider that along with the time savings, it also saves quite a bit of agravation, it seemed like money well spent.
When I finally got to the point of installing it in my GTM's interior, I realized that what everyone had said about the product was true. It does go in much easier, because it it custom cut specifically for the car. The only thing that I'm having a little trouble with is locating where some of the "Cowl" pieces actually fit. But I'll get there.
I know that there have been threads posted here and there about interior sound proofing and insullation. And I also knw that there are a few people who really know their stuff when explaining the structure of how these materials should be installed. And they are 100% correct. But it doesn't get you to a custom cut kit that lays it all out for you. I've never installed this type of material before, but I think I got pretty good results, just by taking my time, dry fitting, trimming the edges here and there, and then figuring out the sequence that I should install each panel. It worked out great.
It may seem pricey at first; but I can tell you from first hand experience, that it's money well spent.
Here are the install pages for the GTM to give you an idea of what you get.
*****One more thing*****
The kit comes with deadening "strips" to apply to the aluminum panels. But since I already had a roll of the same stuff, I went ahead and cut pieces to complelyu cover each panel. Some say this is overkill, and that the strips are enough to kill the resonance of the panels. But I've seen Chip Foose completely cover all panels, so I did too...
My car is going to be a street car, and not a track car; so the few extra pounds aren't stressing me out.
I just wanted to share...
