View Full Version : Advice on build

I am planning on starting a build after the first of the year and would like some input on which kit to build first. We like the MK4 and the ‘33; this will be my first build. I have never really done much with cars except change oil, plugs and headers etc. I am however mechanically inclined so I will catch on fairly quickly. I plan on going up to the factory and doing the tour and attending the three day build school. Any opinions on which car may be the easier build for a first timer between the MK4 and the '33? Just to note my 8 soon to be 9 year old son will be helping with the build. I have always wanted to build a hot rod and when I heard my son put the carb on his grand daddy's '56 Chevy truck (all by himself) when he was visiting this summer I got the itch again. Any recommendations and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

I would go with the MK 4, alot more refined now, more knowledge base also. Donor or new parts all fit great.

The ease of build is pretty much the same between the roadster and hotrod. I would choose the one that matches your dreams and go for it!

I agree with Doug. Which car would you be most happy with? Which car fits your personality more? Which one do you want to hand down to your son? Build that one first, then plan your next build!!

Sounds like you have yourself a good helper there!! Best of luck in your decision and build, whichever direction you proceed!

Building my 33 now. I chose it because it's always been the car in my dream build. I will say though if I had the money I would probably build a MK 4 also. I'm sure ease of build is probably similar so as stated above, go with car you like the most orrrrrrr...........let your son decide.

Thanks for the replies. We are going to build both the MK4 and the '33(not at the same time). I was just wondering if they are about the same level of difficulty to build or is one a better starter car to build for a newbie. Probably going to build the MK4 first and then the "33(wife really wants the MK4). Then when those two are finished maybe even a GTM.
Thanks again,

Chris

Chris-

Are you looking to adopt? I would be happy to be your "son" until all the builds are done!! ;-o)

Good for you all. I also think that starting with the car your wife would like first is an excellent decision.

Good luck with your build(s)!

Steve

I'm in Peachtree City, about 1.5 hours South of you, but if you want to stop by, you're more than welcome to. Just send me a message and I'll give you my number. You can check my current build thread also.
