Part of the supplied bolts for the hinges are shoulder bolts. Interesting thing is that the system is not designed for shoulder bolts. Shoulder bolts are normally used where the shoulder screws up against a solid surface of which results in a set distance for bushings, springs etc to move on yet maintain a rigid setup. Just curious on what other people have done to correct this issue or have you just followed directions and tighten the nut until the arm won't move and then back the nut off some so the arms will move freely. I have been considering welding up the arms and machining then for the correct size hole for the shoulder bolts. Thoughts???

Actually the system is designed for shoulder bolts. Sometimes you have to adjust the spacing with multiple washers or various thicknesses. When installed properly, the shoulder goes through the bearing, through the stationery piece it's attached enough for a large washer(s) on the shoulder and a smaller washer against the step and then tighten the nut. Takes a little fiddling, but works fine. Check to make sure you're assembling correctly. No welding or machining is necessary.

X2 on what edwardb said. I knew this was going to be "interesting" so I took the instructions and other hood hinge pics to a counter with the hinge components and big bag of fasteners. It took a while for me to sift through the mess. But it did go together finally. The spacer thing was the step that really made it come together after I figured it out! The hinges will go together more than one way but only one way is right. Look at the instructions alot. Good luck, WEK.
