tim potts has fabbed up some panels using cardboard templates and lots of time. I avoided using aluminum as i didnt want that noise from road debris flying off my tires. However , obviously you feel there is a need for more protection, and i agree. You may want to try 1/2 inch black closed cell mat with adhesive. I bought and installed that in my rear wells, and also on the underside of my front hood over the wheels. It drastically reduced noise and eliminated the potential for body damage. Another benefit was that it sealed off large cavities.

Chris

Where did you get the black mat?

Thanks,

Marc

Hi Marc-- i searched a LONG time on line trying to find a source specific product. THe closest thing i found was sound mat that would suffice. So i started looking for neoprene material to make my own -- wet-suit shops, upholstery shops, etc. Then i went to walmart and found closed cell mats for working out-- they are black and made by everlast. They were 22 bucks each -- about 30" by 72". It took 3 of them for the whole car. I completely did the rear wheel wells using PL Premium (8x) construction adhesive (6 bucks a tube). the rear wheel wells took several fitted pieces to look factory. I then taped all the joints with Gorilla Tape (although thats an optional thing).
On the front, i cut 2 large pieces for the area from the aluminum guards forward to about 8 inches from the light pocket.
I can post some pics later this weekend. I glued the textured side of the matting to the car, and the smooth side is out.

Thanks Chris,

I also searched for something along those lines but came up empty. I'll have a look at the material. I know Superformance uses a similar product in their wheel wells.

So far I have had bedliner sprayed in the wheel well areas but I like the sound deadening idea of the mat.

Thanks for posting.

Marc
