I don't recall why, but I opted for shorty headers rather than full length headers.

After installing the shorty headers, I wanted to check the clearance of my oil filter (I am trying a Ford 90 degree adapter). Engine is a 302.

I'm not sure what needs to go between the shorty header and the side exhaust.

Obviously, something needs to make up the space difference so that the side exhaust can connect to something at the same position as where a full length header would be positioned. I just don't know what I should be looking for -- or if I even have it.

If I can't figure out why I went with shorty headers in the first place, I may just get full length headers and be done with it.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

I did the same thing you did except I know exactly why I did. The BBK headers are $650 or so and I didn't have the coin at the time. So when I got to the point where I was going to install the headers and had already gotten and installed the remote filter, I realized how much I hated the idea of the J-pipes which you have in your kit. They are like the name implies sort of j shaped with an O2 bung in each one. I think they are side specific so they will be different in shape. I came up with the money for the 4x4 headers and took the remote filter kit off. Some people install catalytic converters in the space between the shorties and the side pipes. If you want a quieter more civilized roadster that may be the way to go. The way I went simplified my build which made me happy in the long run. Also, I liked the idea of the ceramic coating on the headers. I suppose you can get the same effect with shorties and J pipes (ceramic coating that is). WEK.

Yes. That's it - except I ordered the catalytic converter.
Found them and will install tomorrow.
Thanks
