You may be familiar with the Factory Five Build School offered by Mott Community College in Michigan, but you may not be aware of Factory Five school builds going on around the country. We’ve seen a number of schools incorporate a Factory Five build as part of an Auto-Tech curriculum. Each step of the build demonstrates an element of automotive technology, and in the end, the school has a completed car that can be sold to fund the next year’s program.

In Texas, Mesquite ISD’s Career and Technical Center is about to embark on their fourth build. Monti Turner’s Auto Technology students and Jerry Farley’s Auto Collision & Repair students have collaborated on the builds and produced some really professional results. Here are some photos of the Mk4 they completed this past spring, and Stewart Transport will be delivering a new Mk4 kit to Mesquite next month!

Man, this is incredible, especially compared to the jalopies I worked on and built during high school.

What a great program! I graduated high school in 1970 and was lucky enough to take electives in oceanography and aviation science, but would have dropped those classes to get some tool time on a Cobra.

Wow- These folks are putting together some nice builds! That's some great instructors and talented students working together.

I can't wait to see their next build... Keep up the good work in Texas y'all!

Steve

For those who say this is an old fa** project, have a look. You just have to make the legend known to the new generation and they will fall in love with it all over again just like I did! Once they see it they are hooked. Wouldn't it be cool to say, "we built a Cobra in our auto class when I was in high school". "NO WAY"!
