I seem to remember having to bust open the donor brake booster to get the pushrod out when I built a mk2 in 02,buf I'm having vague memories of using a "help" section pushrod from parts store.
If donor, how do you get it out? If parts house, does length matter? I don't mind cutting and welding.....

There is a clip holding the pushrod into the master cylinder. They do come in several lengths. There is also an adjustable one available from many of the forum vendors.

Although I haven't worked w/ one myself, several posts over the years talk about an MC pushrod that is a 'snap it in but can't remove w/ destruction' style. I hope someone will chime in w/ details. Also it would be good if you post exactly which MC you have.

I originally was planning on using one of the adjustable pushrods that is available from vendors, but I ended-up using one from a Fox bodied 4 cyl as it had the offset hole for the mounting point at the brake lever that I wanted. That allowed me to get a very smooth and linear action on the pushrod when the brakes are applied.
