Check out this design that was submitted for one of local motors competitions. It has all the design points. An open top mid-engine roadster, removeable hardtop with windscreen. The fenders come off so you can run it as an open wheeler at the track.
Kind of a best of both worlds thing.

A little over the top. I like some of the pencil earlier drawings better, but overall kinda cool. I wonder how it would make the transition to 3d rendering and finally a model.
It does look fairly producible. Especially if FFR can make the red parts an type of plastic, like motorcycles. The proportions would have to change slightly, the passenger space would need to slide forward a bit. This design could likely survive a change like that. However, I'm not sure such a design could survive adding a windshield and possible top.
Definately over the top, but real easy to tone it down. If you didn't notice one the side sketches included his idea for the removeable top. I like the modular aspect of the design.

Yes, Over The Top, but one thing I think would make it easier to manufacture is that each panel is small. Instead of one large body structure (which could require mold seems, which makes 'no-paint' more challenging), there are lots of small ones. Like someone said, some of these could even be plastic. Easier to meet the 'no-paint' goal.
But as cool as something like this could look, its going to look more kit, less car.
