View Full Version : Seat adjustment

It appears in the photos that the seats in the 818s won't be adjustable because of the cross brace just in front of the seat. Are there any work arounds to be able to adjust seat to pedals?

I asked about this previously, at 5'9 I would have preferred the S seat to be about an inch or two closer, but it will really depend on your seats. I think there's no reason why the seat couldn't "smoosh" into the bar a little to give you that extra inch. I'm not going to panic until the pedals are mounted and I have my seat sitting in the car.

2 thoughts on that. First, most cars have a ridge at the front of the seamounts that the adjustable seat not only uses to bolt to, but also slides right over top of. Second, it looks as though the x-brace under the seat (in the pic) is the same height as the cross brace you pointed out. That brace may very well be the mounting point for closer seat mounting. So, like longislandwrx expressed, I'll wait to worry about it. Such things are likely factored in already and will make sense during the build. No worries mate! :)

I'm 5"11" with long legs, so I'm expecting all the way back will work well for me. My wife wants me put mount the seats on sliders so she can drive... don't know about that  This may be a perfect excuse... sorry dear, you can't reach!
Although, there's always a solution:

You've never seen "The Temple of Doom" or "Road to Perdition"?
I had this thought a long way back. I'd bet that for the 818, it may be easier to make the pedal and perhaps even the wheel adjustable, than to make the seat adjustable. Adjustment might require some tools, however, unless you can incorporate some product like Ford's motorized adjustable pedals.

I don't even know if there's such an assembly out there that includes a clutch pedal.

I made some adjustable pedals for my friend's Fmod. It's a copy of the wilwood pedal, but with different length inserts. For single drivers, or two drivers of the same height, the insert can be bolted in. For different drivers, quick release pins can be used to swap quickly between runs.

Really nice looking pedals! Have you listed yourself as a vendor yet?

No.
Need to verify one more thing before I register as an LLC with Indiana, then I'll become a vendor and start selling parts. Until then, I'll just post pics of things you can't have. ;)
I'm thinking by September I should be good.

Seriously, Mechie3, your stuff is really cool. I hope you don't mind random loitering around your shop and/or 818 this fall. Lol

I should have answers re this in a week or two. My wife is 5' tall. I have some 3/4 in high sliders... If need be I'll modify that brace, move pedals back etc... I need range from 5 feet to 5' 8".
Just finished stacking the boxes in my garage... only important back orders today: rear trans plate and the axles

It must be awesome to be able to imagine a part and then machine your design. Looking forward to see what other things you come up with.

I won't even be able to order my kit for at least a year, so I can only imagine what will be available for the 818 by the time I get to start building (order in 1 year means probably getting the kit in 2 years).

Maybe........ Though I believe that FFR will eventually catch up with the current one-year lead time. I'll bet that a year from now, the backlog will be significantly less than that. Of course, my saying it doesn't make it so..........

Well if the seat can't be adjusted, what if the pedal assembly was put on sliders? Drive by wire and floor mounted pedal assembly would be required. Feel free to shoot this idea down. Just thinking out of the box, or out of my mind. LOL
