I purchased a 3.1 roadster kit back in 2008, I completed it about a year ago. I have never been happy with the braking. The kit came with wilwood master cylinders and peddle assembly. I used the brake calipers, pads and rotors that came with the kit. I have bled the front and rear system twice and had it professionally bled recently. The peddle pressure seems correct and i believe the wilwood master cylinders are adjusted correctly. I did add a proportioning valve to the rear brake system.
My problem is I can't get any lock up at all, (front or back) and don't feel confident in the system as it is, it just doesn't brake as hard as it should.
I have heard that hawk, hps pads might help considerably and would like to try them before re adjusting the master cylinder bias or doing anything else. I am unclear as to the year and model on the rotor/caliper assemblies and therefore can't order the correct parts. Could you give me the info for the front and back assemblies and if you have any further suggestions I would certainly welcome them. Thanks in advance.

Same issue. I have the FFR 14685 spindle brake package that came with my MKIII kit that I picked up in August 2007 with what I remember are Wagner pads. Went to my first track day last weekend and the brakes were limiting. I have not been pleased with stopping power from day one, even after they were "bedded" and got a little better. They car feels like it won't stop sometimes and gets a bit scary if you don't leave a lot of room between you and the car in front of you. I dialed the proportioning valve to shut the rear brake stopping power all the way down and only got a little improvement. I need some recommendations on pad upgrades that are OK for the street and much better for autocrossing and track days like maybe Hawk HP+? Please provide any part numbers or let me know what year and model Mustang I need to look for. Thanks in advance.

Bob,
The challenge car guys run carbotech 10's in the front and 12's in the rear. This may be a bit aggresive for a street car. You could run 8's all around, or 10's all around and have a huge increase in performance with the same brakes. The 10's are a bit more aggresive than the 8's. This should apply if you are using the standard brakes that we carry.
Best regards,
Brian @ FFR

Brian,
thanks for the info on the pads. Could you provide what brakes i have on the 3.1. I have heard they are 1999-2004 mustang gt, but haven't been able to confirm that. I want to get the right pads the first time.
Thanks, bob

Bob, FYI this is what I got from Andy at FFR:
The pads we have found to be the best for street/open track performance are the Carbotech XP8. These pads will give you much better braking performance without sacrificing street drive-ability. The part number for your calipers should be CT804, and if you have our rear brakes as well the part number for those is CT627. If you want a pad strictly for track use look for the XP10.

The 11.65" rear brake kit we have is for a 94-98 Cobra Mustang.

I have the 10.5 inch rotors with my complete kit. What is your (part number) recommendation for them?

Thanks for the information, the part numbers for the brakes are particularly helpful. I believe, if I've not got my wires crossed, that the 3.1 kit front brakes are 99-01 Mustang GT, part number CT804 and the rear brakes are 94-98 Mustang GT, part number CT627.
I'll be ordering the pads shortly, I'm thinking I'll go with the Carbotech XP8's all around, unless someone has a reason not do do so for a primarily street driven car.
Thanks again.

Just a quick correction on my last missive, the rear brakes are 94-98 mustang COBRA brakes, part number CT627.
At my age it's just to easy to be confused.
