There is no down side to using the 95. It is basically the same as a 94.

there should only be one O2 sensor on a 95 as it is OBD1. Less hassle with check engine lights.

Oh yeah that's right it is obd1 I forgot about that. I
Still haven't decided big block or small block. Is it hard to convert the 95 5.0 to a carb engine

Not answering your question, but in case you didn't know. One thing about the 94 / 95 is that is has a transmission that has a unique length input shaft. So a unique bellhousing and driveshaft. An upgrade later will make you change a lot of parts.

OBD1 can use two O2 sensors. Both donors had two. Also the 94,95 engine drive accessories are different which can cause issues if you delete some things.

I plan on using a tremec trans the donor I found doesn't have a trans. And I was really hoping to go to a carb on the car and get rid of the efi

With that plan it will be fine w/ one exception-all the stuff on the front of the engine. The crank pulley is closer to the front of the block than on 93 and older. So the Alt and PS pump etc mounting brackets are all different too. And you can't just swap to the older water pump because it will not fit the front cover. All this will work fine but it makes it real hard to find aftermarket brackets. When you look stuff up, 90% list something like 88-93 and nothing for 94-95.They just didn't feel like investing the $ to make parts that only fit two model years. As long as you are aware of this it works fine. many people who have used this engine decide if they will use AC, and PS etc first, and then just start cutting away at the stock brackets getting rid of what they don't need. I'd recommend not cutting off the PS bracket.

IIRC, '94-95 Mustang has the same front dress as Explorers. To make your front dress proper, you will need an '87-83 timing cover and water pump. Ford Racing at one time sold a conversion kit with all the necessary parts. I used an '01 Explorer 302 in my build and swapped the front dress over to Mustang and removed the EFI. It allowed me to use March Pulleys and brackets.
