This will be my first NASA weekend. The primer red Challenge Car is set.

Any advice for a first timer, even if you are not going? I'm sure I'll at least muddle my way through with tech, etc (HPDE1 of course).

Not sure about camping (elect hookup..?) or hotels, and it sure would be nice to meet a few fellow FFR nuts. Look for a long, black Tacoma TRD crew cab towing a 20' white Haulmark enclosed... looking lost. Wave me down!

Eric,

Can't be there this weekend but do have some info. Very limited electrical hookups at the track. Tech inspection for HPDE-1 is pretty basic. They want to see that you have functional brake lights and a helmet ... that's about it! I usually bring my motorhome so don't know about hotels. Wish I could be there to meet you ... I'm planning on doing HPDE again in September. Maybe we can hook up then.

Instructors are great, both classroom and on track.

Eric, sent you a note. Not a track car but I am building a FFR 33 Hotrod and I am in Peachtree City. Good luck this weekend !!

That sounds like fun! I took at lap at Road Atlanta during the Mitty. I will have to look into this.

I think Mike Tuck will be there finishing up his last 2 races on his provisional race license.

Eric,
Most of all have fun this weekend. As Gary stated, power is VERY limited so I would not count on it being there. He’s also right about the tech inspection. Some other items of Note: Shade – There is none so bring sun screen and some sort of shade. Bring water since there is limited availability at the track itself.

As far as hotels, the closest and still fairly reasonable is the Holiday Inn Express across from the Chateau Elan Inn.

Others can be found here:

Wish I could be there, but alas I cannot.

Thanks everyone - the kids and I had a great weekend. Parked next to Ryan accidentally, and that was great! What a wonderful guy and family! He raced Spec30 with his boy(s) and his wife was in my HPDE. He brought his gorgeous coupe Sun morning.

We found power by arriving early, and brought a 10x10 tent...and gallons of water! The tips really helped.

And if course the car was an absolute blast!

The only unresolved issue is the brakes. Carbotech 10s front, and never seemed to reach temp even when my Instructor (TT corvette) took me out in HPDE4. Perhaps I didn't bed them in properly? Or is 20min really too short a time? We were standing on them and they just didn't haul the car down.

That aside, I can't wait to get back on the track!

NICE!! Ryan and his family are sure a fun bunch to be around.

What master size cylinders do you have? what front/rear calipers? How is the pedal feel (hard as a rock when you push down, any modulation)?

It is the new spec brake package, and has the Mustang MC set up (not sure the size... can they be different?).

the pedal is firm (bled the brakes before the weekend). My instructor commented that he thought it was quite good in that regard, and that is why he thought the pads. Nothing will lock up however... Front or rear.

When I was running Carbotechs, had 12's on the front and 10's on the rear. So did quite a few others.

I am with JG on this one. I think your MC may be undersized so you are not getting enough pressure to the calipers. If none of the wheels are able to lock up, then they are under braked. I think the calipers and pads are just fine.

Ed, find out what mater cylinder you have then get back to us :)

I'm using a dual master cylinder setup with a balance bar, and have 13/16" front, and 5/8" rear master cylinder sizes.

Similar to mine, except I went with 7/8 Front

Part list:
WIL-260-3372 MASTER CYLINDER KIT 5/8IN
WIL-260-3376 MASTER CYLINDER KIt .875

Guessing you are running the Wilwood set up? Mine is Mustang, although I will do what it takes to make it work.

I will see what I can find out.

I think I went with 10's because a) I am just starting out and b) the rears are performance street that I was thinking would be fine until I got some speed and extended hard braking. But geez, I should be able to lick the fronts!

I am inclined to agree - feels like I need more "leverage".

Bedding consisted of the prescribed low speed runs days before the event, then a newbie (me) doing a 15 min session on the track...

Get back to you on the MC.

Either way... Damn this is fun!!!
