From what I can tell from old photos, many of the original Cobras had the side vents painted. So I decided to change my side vents from polished aluminum to painted the same color as the body.

I went from this:

If it ever quits raining, maybe I'll get a chance to see the new look in full sun.

Add me to the painted list also. Had considered getting them either powder coated silver or polished but just liked them the same color as the body.

Ours are painted as well, but they are painted the stripe color. Our car is Tungsten Gray with Satin Silver stripes (Ford GT and Shelby GT 500 colors) so the side louvers have a slight contrast to the body...

I like the look of the body colored vents. I had them painted body color on my car also. Done it both ways, but prefer the body colored look.

Mine are painted also but I guess it depends how old school you want to be. I think we can be pretty sure Shelby didn't polish any of the originals- too time consuming.

All a matter of taste, and like so many aspects of these builds, either way is fine. I delivered the ********** louvers to my painter along with the body to have them painted the body color. He talked me out of it, and I polished them instead. Since I have a lot of other shiny parts on the car (chrome QJ's, roll bar, SS side pipes, etc.) just looks right. But I agree, painted can look good too.

Hi David,
I like what you did. Never occurred to me to do such with my Challenge Series car.

While not a '65 Roadster, here's what I did on my '33:

It worked nicely on the flat side panels of the '33.
