1. About to start putting on a lot of my aluminum panels and I noticed there are two different sizes for 1/8th rivets. Short and long (I don't feel like getting up to see what the sizes actually are)... is there any particular places that you would use the long ones? If so does the book tell you to use them (passing thru I didn't see any times it did)?

2. I have the IRS and I have been looking online for Quad shocks and was wondering if anyone had suggestions to ones?

3. I had more questions but my beer ran out and I cant think of them now.... I might edit this as I refresh myself!

I used the shorter rivets when joining aluminum to aluminum, longer one into the thicker steel.

Not sure why FFR gives so many long ones. They arent needed in most places. I believe you are referring to the really long ones. they are for 3/8 to 5/8 thick I believe. Do yourself a favor and buy some medium length ones instead.

You do not need or want quad shocks on an IRS car.

If you used poly bushings or spherical bearings on the hub you don't need quad shocks for the IRS...

I had the solid bushings on my 94 Thunderbird and they made a big difference in the handling but no difference in the ride. I have them on my ff and am planning no quad shocks based on what I have read here. I haven't driven it yet though. I'm planning to try without. You can always add them later if you don't put anything in the way (brake lines, etc).

ok because the instruction manual says to get them but hey... three people here say don't... I take your word over the manual. I mean... I have the fuel tank problem right now because the bolts are too short but the manual makes it look so easy... lol thanks guys

Jack,
You can bank on info. from Michael Everson. He has built a bunch of these cars.

Are you going to the car show to benefit the town of West, Texas next Saturday? We will have a couple of the Austin Cobras there and my wifes '67 Mustang. Hope to see you there.

I was thinking of taking the wife and maybe a friend up there. I have been getting the emails just trying to figure out if the wife and friend are going to go. If not I might just take the drive myself or see if yall have an open seat.

The fuel tank issue, most likely, is that you have not bent the lip down yet where the mounting bolts are located. In the instructions is says to bend the tank lip flat before raising the tank. (I did the same thing)

Hope this helps.

Build is going well, very close to body and paint. I am very happy with the kit, fit and finish. Drove it for the first time this week (go cart video on my build thread). This weekend will be 8 weeks into the build. I need the car to go to paint so I can take a break.

Thank you. I am very happy with the motor/trans choice. Looking forward to the first cruise to the ice cream shop, or gun range!

I did the same as 68GT500MAN. I think that's what's suggested in the manual also.
