Hi,

Picked up my 818S Friday morning and got it home (Northern NY) just before a major rainstorm hit.

Apparently I was the first to pick up the 818 with a flat bed car trailer so there was some head scratching as to the best way of placing it on the trailer. We ended up with a couple 4 x 4's on the trailer bed with the 818 on top of them and strapped down. We had to stop a couple times on the way home to reposition the 4 x 4's as they tended to slide out. Next time I'd straddle the 4 x 4's with a pair of 2 x 4's screwed to the wood plank floor of the trailer.

We used 6 ratcheting tie-down straps to locate fore and aft, side to side, and over the top.

The boxes of parts filled the truck (box and back seat combined). Only about four parts are back-ordered including a pair of re-designed inner door panels.

Everybody at FFR was very helpful and made sure we had all of the boxes even though it was hotter than Hell.

Dave gave us a tour of the place and my sheet metal fabricator buddy had a bunch of questions.

6 hour drive home followed by a soaking in the rain. Got soaked again the next day unloading everything.<LOL>

My enclosed trailer is filled with my buddy's house( from a flood almost 2 years ago, and still waiting for a settlement) so I'm gonna have to use my open metal deck trailer. I guess I'm gonna have to build a s small plat form to keep it raised up? Any picks of yours still loaded

I'll post the photos I took, as soon as I can. Not sure that any clearly showed how the straps/boards were placed.......

FFR placed the car with a special forklift on the 4 x 4's which were about 4' long and placed side to side under the frame. The trailer was probably expecting to see a 5,000 lb vehicle sooooo, the 818 got bounced a bit and the 4 x 4's walked around. Anything that can tie the 4 x 4's down (2 x 4's, angle steel, clamps, screws, etc, etc) would be good.

We had a 4 door pick up with a cap on the bed which probably directed the air over the 818 windshield, which was good. We had to dial the trailer brakes way down, otherwise it left black streaks on the highway even with the 818 on board.

Taking it off of the trailer, we lifted the rear with an engine hoist while supporting the front with a horizontal 2 x 4 and the 4 x 4's supporting the 2 x 4. The trailer was moved out from underneath. Then we lowered it in steps to a set of 4 mover's dollies from Horrible Fright. No photos of that process as we were rushing before the rain started.

I am also picking up my kit with a flat bed trailer. Was there any problem with the front edge of the doors catching air? Also, were all the body panels well secured?

Well, they shipped my kit but I'm telling you, they used so much tape you could've built a 2nd 818 outa it! The body is secured with some screws.

Called Stewart and they said the driver will pick up my kit this Wednesday or Thursday and deliver Saturday. Too bad I won't be home. :/

Hey, by all means send it to me! I'm pretty sure I wouldn't mind keeping it for a while ;)!

FFR taped everything down extremely well with a wide, extremely strong, fabric reinforced tape over all of the seams. You might want to tell them in advance that you are using an open trailer so they will use extra tape.

Between the tape and the self tapping screws everything was well secured.

Just looked at the photos. The door panels were not taped to the body on mine. They went into the back of the truck along with a zillion boxes. The boxes took up almost all of the Ford F350 box and cap.

Nice diagram. That is exactly what I'd recommend. The FFR 4 x 4's were about 4 foot long. 6 foot long 2 x 4's screwed to the trailer bed would work nicely to keep the 4 x 4's from sliding.
