Hey there Everyone,

So if you have been reading any of my latest posts here, I mentioned that this morning I would have a Grand Opening Kit for the budget builders. As it is after midnight now, I guess I can share this with you all.

A little while back I ran across some factory reman 996 street car gearboxes for a fairly reasonable price. There are still a few of these left now, so I thought I would take advantage of that and put this kit together as a way to get things going again here at The Race Line.

Recently we have received some really good news about these gearboxes as well. We received some testing data that has shown that this gearbox is capable of handling quite a bit more HP and Torque than we originally expected it to. I would still not recommend this option for engines that are going to be force inducted, but outside of that, I would say this is a pretty safe bet. If you are going to use a engine that is force inducted, not to worry, I have options for you as well.

So here we go, let me know what you think.

G96.00 gearbox that has been remanufactured by the factory and double checked by us here at The Race Line. (A couple of tricks have been added to it as well.)
Custom Adapter plate and flywheel kit
Stage II clutch kit - (stage III is also available if warranted)
Cable shift assy
Inner CV Joint Kit
Torque reduction starter

$8835.00 plus shipping Would be a VERY good price, but I want this month to be a good one for everyone. $8000.00 plus shipping for the month of August ONLY.

We can also offer some additional goodies if you need them, but they would add to the overall cost naturally.

There are not too many of these around currently, so I am not sure I would recommend waiting on this one if you are in need of a great gearbox option at a very reasonable cost point.

I look forward to your comments, suggestions, and working with you all once again.

Warmest Regards,

So a few additional words about the Porsche 996 gearbox. It is a 6-speed gearbox that is cable shifted internally which is really nice for the GTM. It is not the tallest gearing around but it is still quite good for the LS engine.

Recent testing is showing that this gearbox is quite capable of dealing with 500 HP without any issues so far, and that is on a car that has been driven pretty hard.

They do require some maintenance when they get 50K miles on them or so; So if you are thinking of getting one from a salvage shop it would be a good idea to have it gone through. They also require a different adapter plate then what is supplied by factory five, which is why it is included in this kit.

Overall, it is a pretty strong gearbox that should be more then up to the task of the GTM.

Erik,

What's the word? Have you moved onto bigger, and better things?

I've already grabbed a transaxle from you, nice stuff. Can't wait to try it out on the track next month!

Yep The Race Line is my baby, so to speak. Some changes needed to be made and this was the direction I wanted to pursue. I have enjoyed working with the builder here for quite sometime and saw no reason I should not continue to provide the same great service, and products working for myself. I have fulll shop, and the sales are run by myself. Now all I need is a couple of new customers and things will be roses... Let me know how things go at the track. I look forward to working with everyone here on a regular basis again.

Thank you for your past business, please let me know how things go at the track, and if there is anything I can do to help improve your cars handling or performance.

Erik, I know you mentioned the testing before, how much does the test car weigh? iirc, it was more than a gtm. thanks in advance.

There was actually a couple of different tests that have lead me to this conclusion. One of them was in Porsche Boxster which is pretty heavy, and was driven very hard, so I am not too concerned with the gearbox holding up. The Boxster obviously had a very different engine in it than the stock.

Thanks for the question.

Erik,

Is this the box that is used in the later 6-speed boxster? Do you have the gearing chart? Thanks.

Internally yes it is essentially the same as the Boxster S gearbox, but it is out of the 911 instead which allows it to be inverted and the axle geometry to be a bit better for the GTM. It is a G96.00 gearbox. There are already several builders here that have this gearbox, and it has been quite durable and well received.

For those who would rather piece things together instead of purchase a full kit, I can sell you one of these gearboxes, for $4600.00 plus shipping.

Thanks for looking,

Erik, quick questions about these boxes. When you ship them are they assembled with the clutch, adapter, shifter cable assembly and everything already installed? Im not sure how much is involved with installation of those components and have not really researched it yet. Just wondering when I receive the crate from you, what the basic steps are that need to get done to actually get it on the engine. Is it the same as if I purchased all the parts separately? Or is it basically plug and play? (haha... if installing the trans could be plug and play). Thanks so much for your time. Bob

Hey there Bob,

It is a pretty complete package so yeah in terms of installation it is not overly difficult to get everything in place.

I am always here to help with any questions along the way as well. Should you find yourself in a predicament, you can always give me a call.

Once you actually see the parts they all tend to make sense as to where they go and how they actually get installed against the engine.

Give me a call if you have any additional questions on this, and thanks for the post.
