What are you guys using? Where did you get yours from? What condition/price?

I have a 2005 WRX Wagon right now, looking at a few others right now as well with lower mileage. See my other thread for the damage to it. Probably sell some of the parts off if I end up with a few cars.

Just curious how everyone else is doing.

I chose a 2006 wrx sedan with 76k miles as my donor. I do a lot of business with copart, and I have purchased a running and driving 2002 wrx wagon 5 speed with only 124k miles on it. I am trying to decide whether I want to sell a donor kit or sell it as a whole donor.

I found mine through networking with friends and friends-of-friends. Condition was MAJORLY F'd UP, but the price was low. Virtually all of the damage was in the rear and sides, the rest of the car is actually in pretty good shape. Not many sellable parts though, and I need to replace some things, so overall it will not wind up being as cheap as some others that bought donors in better condition and sold parts. That suits me fine, since I don't really want the hassle of selling parts on Craig's Flakes. And, for the money I get a rather awesome engine - way more power than I planned. That should be fun! :)

I finally found mine, it took a while thru Copart and Salvageauctionxxx and with a help of this local Subi guy who buys salvage cars that is fixable, mine was a insurance auction car, he went to the auction and checked the car out for me. if anyone is interested in a Donor car in CA please PM me I can send you his number. he only charged me couple of hundred bucks for his service I think is worth it.

just send in my order w FFR for next summer build.

I used 818donors. Not the cheapest route, but everything showed up in decent shape, all mechanicals checked out & inspected by someone who knows what to look for, and will make the paperwork at registration time simpler. 2007 wrx 42,000. Of course some cleaning and minor maintenance is needed like the common oil cooler leaking o-ring. I feel I kinda got lucky with the year and mileage.

that is pretty good, I got a higher mileage one, and needed a new turbo, bearing is making noise per prev. owner and valve cover job, but timing belt pump etc was done already. also you don't have to deal with removing and then salvaging the car to get the certificate back, is more time and more steps to go thru.

I did change my timing belt and the idlers. I think my donor sat with a buckled hood for a bit. The donor kit came with a new radiator and the front edge of the engine had a lot of corrosion. The timing belt idlers were rusty. As a precaution, I changed all that out. Worried the rust would be too rough on the timing belt once I was up and running again. The rest of the engine and transmission was super clean. Now I'm just cleaning and prettying things up a bit. Can't wait, is it Christmas yet?!?
