I know this subject has been beaten to death but I'm trying to make sure I understand it correctly. I have the Ron Francis 5.0 chassis harness and I'm using the Ford 2G (stock)alternator. Both the FFR and RF manuals say basically, "if you want a light indicating that the alternator is charging put this light, with a 510 ohm resistor, "in line". To do this you need to run another wire to the brown, small wire running between the ign switch and the alternator". If I understand it correctly you literally cut and install the light "in line" in the brown wire. What I don't really understand is why the necessity for "running another wire" as it states in the instructions. I was told that it was best to install the "other" wire as close to the alternator as possible. Can't you just use the existing brown wire and splice the indicator light with-in this wire? Those of you that have done this, what's the best way or location to do this?

Thanks,

Glenn

Alternator won't charge if the exciter wire isn't connected. If the light bulb burns out, then the circuit is broken and the alternator won't charge. The resistor wired in parallel creates a backup in case the light bulb burns out.
