Does anyone have a detailed picture showing the order and fitment of the spacers and bushings on the MK4 hood hinge? The instructions say the spacer should fit over the bushing flange so that the flange butts up against the aluminum. The spacers that i have do not fit over the bushing flange. The sit on top of the flange almost just like the washers would.

Any clarification would be great.

Thanks,

Michael,

I assume you are referring to the FFR upgrade hood hinge kit (with struts). I installed mine so that the shoulder/lip of the bronze bushing was against the side of the hood bracket that is attached to the hood. If you notice, the id of the washers fit over the larger, smooth pin portion of the fastener. I used one washer under the head of the fastener and one washer between the hinge arm and the locknut. Note there will be just enough of the smooth pin part of the bolt sticking through the arm to hold the washer in place. Make sure the washer doesn't get offset when you tighten the locknut.

That sounds like what I was doing, but the extra bag of spacers is what was throughing me off. I used the washers just as you did, but the spacer would not fit. I may just skip the spacer and just use the washers like you did.

Thanks!

These aren't my pics, but found them when I was doing my Mk3 and helped a lot. The Mk4 hinge pieces are slightly different, but assembly with the bushings, bolts, spacers, etc. is the same idea. These pictures confirm what Ron described. Put a washer under the head of the bolt and another over the shoulder under the nut. Whether you need the spacers (or additional washers as pictured here) depends on various thicknesses and tolerance build-up. If the nut bottoms against the shoulder of the bolt before the joint is tight, either a thicker or additional washer is required. For both my Mk3 and Mk4 build, it took some playing around to find the right combinations.

This is exactly what I was loking for and exactly the way I have mine put together, presently. I'll consider this "case closed," and move on the the next thing.

Thanks everyone

Helping Bill3422 we were concerned that those spacers leave the hinge pretty sloppy but didn't make any effort to try to shim them. I was thinking about some wave washers or rubber or something. Later we realized that, w/ the gas struts applying constant pressure, the slop doesn't seem like a big deal.
