View Full Version : Emergency Brake Too Tight

I followed the FF instructions for installing the e-brake, and found that the brake was so tight even when released that I couldn't turn the rear wheels. It seems the positions for the end of the cable housing are fixed and the cable length isn't adjustable -- would appreciate suggestions for how to correct this. I'm using Wilwood 6-piston brakes in the back with a 3-link suspension. No donor parts.

thanks

David,

I just finished the e brake installation. I am wondering if the problem your having is caused by the routing of the cables under the cross member, in other words is the cable housing or cable rubbing against the cross member causing too much friction when you release the brake handle.

I did not like the FFR method of routing the brake cables so I modified the handle assembly so that I could route the cable above the crossmember and it seems to work fine. The brake fully engages at 3 clicks and releases fully when I lower the handle.

This looks like a good solution - I'll give this a try! I don't like routing the cables under the cross-member either - it seems like a kluge to me....

David,

I used Lokar cables instead of the FFR ones but you probably can make them work.
