View Full Version : Mk4 upgraded coil overs - softer ride???

I have a general question for all of the roadster owners/experts

I have over 2000mi on my roadster and I really enjoy the ride (no used parts and a 3 link with upgraded FFR coil overs). I have noticed that I feel every little bump and seems to ride more like an Indy car vs a daily driver (avoiding bad roads is a must). This set up would be fantastic for the track but at this point track time may be some time off. I have reduced the tire pressure with little change. I assume the next step is to install different coil overs - recommendations?

Is this the typical for all roadsters re ride experience?

Thanks in advance

The FFR supplied Konis (if that's what you have) are adjustable - 4 settings for rebound. If you need the instructions on how to adjust PM me your email address and I will see if I can dig up the document t on the computer.... It may be a place to start...

A number of us over in the Hot Rod forum have switched to QA1 Ultra rides. There are a couple of threads on the topic.

It's not the coil overs, it's the springs. The quality of the springs supplied by FFR are not of the highest quality and the pound rating on them are more of a sliding scale. I went with Eibach springs in combination with the FFR coil overs and the results are quite noticeable. I also went a bit softer. Adding sway-bars front and rear allow you to spring less and still allow the car to corner flat and stable. I ended up with 425 lbs springs in the front and 250 lbs in the rear. I run a Levy 5-Link in the rear which is similar to a 3 link but more adjustable. Ride on the highway should be the same as your 3-Link.

I am not surprised by your review. I realize that the shocks play a major role in ride but FFR used to supply 250# springs for the solid axle rear. When they started supplying the konis, they switched to 350 springs. The fronts can be quite stiff and not affect the ride too much. But, since you practically sit on the rar axle, the rear springs have a major effect. If I were you I would order some 250 springs and see how you like the ride. Be aware that, as Frankeeski did, you might want to add swaybars later. And that you may need to run slightly higher rear height.

Thanks for the suggestions

I will send for body and paint next week and consider what to do with the body off
