Hi, everyone. So, here's the first post from Last. Ha!

I have the good fortune to work for a company that rewards its [US] employees for not quitting with an 8-week paid sabbatical once every 7 years. I earned my second one last year, and I'm planning it now. Most folks seem to spend spend theirs traveling or doing some home improvement project. I'm gonna build a car.

But, more than that, really. My dad, a true Car Guy®, just retired last year at the age of 67. He had never stopped working since he was 12 years old, getting paper routes in Milwaukee to help feed himself and his widowed mother, so retiring has been a big deal for him. He's had more cars than I can remember... everything from classic Corvettes to a blown '92 Mustang to a Dodge Viper and now motorcycles. He's always been wrenching on something. It was never a keen interest for me when I was growing up, though, and I know he was a little disappointed that I didn't show the same enthusiasm for grinding rust of a 1967 Corvette frame that he had.

Despite that, however, I had always dreamed of building a car from scratch, a Cobra in particular, with my dad. I'm turning 39 again this year (!), and he's turning 69 in November, and there's no time like the present. So, for my sabbatical later this year my parents will come stay for a few weeks for a little car project. :) Mom will watch the boys while Dad and I build a Mark-IV together.

I've been slowly sucking up info from the forum, and I plan on doing the build school sometime this summer. I'm looking forward to this project very much and I'm sure I'll be leveraging the vast experience of the people on this site.

Cheers!

Jim
