Yea I am, 23,910.76 with kit paid in full, might get different wheels and some seats and steering wheel

me too... currently at just under $16,000, including the kit (paid in full, check is in the mail!)

I am too. I also have a thread called 818 finances or something. Not always updated but shows cost of items and value of sold goods. With the kit and cf options I'm at $17k including wheels and seats but no tires yet.

I have a spreadsheet as well. Currently estimating ~$24k complete.

Spreedsheet.
With taxes and shipping over your North border into that lost empty space called Canada, I show $46k. I admit I got a lot over the 10k base kit + 5k donor. Many things upgraded. And I am not counting the wipers, soft top/hard top.

As do I, I am at $14,773

I'm tracking with Excel as well... I have my donor, looking at ~$24k including shipping to CA, with aftermarket seats, a stereo, carbon fiber ground effects and rims/tires. I'm sure there will be more small expenses that drive it up, but all the major items are budgeted.

Most people are tracking their spending but the big item on there is "donor"

Are you looking for an individualized list of the parts you need and their prices to complete the kit without using a donor?

Frank818

So far my plan is AJW Performance's pallets + upgrade parts done by them.
UNLESS, I come across a nice deal and do everything myself.

i hope people share their spreasheets when they are done. i am looking for parts list, price, links, etc. some people put together detail spreadsheets for other builds.

wow - if my budget for an 818 hit $46K I would seriously look at building an RCR Superlight, GT40, 904, or any one of the other machines they craft instead.

The 818 is a great car, but to me it's sweet spot ends in the high 20's -- after that, there are better options out there.

My 818 will come in under $30K CDN and that's including the kit, taxes, shipping, and options like traction control, race brakes, a big-azz Carbon wing, a Racepak dash with standalone engine management, and a good chunk of the rest of the car covered in Carbon too.

(RCR starts at 45k, but finished can easily hit 60-65+, according to what I have seen)

Ok so maybe I got something wrong then...

818 Kit $9,990
Crate shipping $695
Powder coated chassis $399
Carbon fiber front splitter $399
Carbon fiber rocker panel extensions (2) $396
Carbon fiber rear diffuser $275
Large road race carbon fiber wing $1,499
Seats $1,000
Steering Wheel + hub $200
Shifter knob $50
Donor parts kit (818donors.com) (keep ABS sensor wheel and sensors, need alu control arms) $5,000
Charcoal canister and valve $100
Performance upgrades $5,000
Front LSD $500
Air to water cooler $500
Gauges A/F - Fuel - Oil Pressure - Oil Temp - Speedo - Tacho 3" - Boost - Volt - Water Temp $1,077
Wheels Rota Torque 18x9.5 35mm 5x100 ($220 each) $440
Wheels Rota Torque 17x7.5 48mm 5x100 ($155 each) $310
Tires (estimated 250 each) $1,000
Heater $1,350
Hood pins lockable $75
Oil cooler $100
Suede interior $1,000
HID headlights $300
Other LED lighting $250
ISIS™ 3-CELL Starter Kit Part Number: ISIS3BOXZ (same part number as GTM?) $1,553
ISIS™ inTOUCH™ MAX Double DIN Touch Screen Part Number: ISISINTXZ $1,724
ISIS™ inReserve Part Number: ISISRESVZ $205
Racelogic Traction control kit $1,130
Pain (maybe not, depends if gel coat is available a color I like) $3,500
Canada Transport Engineer $500

That's 40k. + taxes and shipping (estimated at 10% and 7%, as there will parts I won't pay taxes, some yes) = 46.5k (with paint if any).

And I'm pretty sure the crate shipping at $695 is dead wrong, many people within the US mentioned shipping around $1000-$2000.

I believe the crate charge is just for crating everything, ie does not include shipping.

I'm using a couple linked google spreadsheets, and tracking my sold parts to offset the cost. Currently my donor (minus quite a few items incl. motor, seats, wheels) cost me $350 once I factor parts I sold off of it. If I can sell all the things I want to my build will be around 17k. Realistically I'm not going to be able to get rid of every part I have, and other various things I'm not factoring in right now (brake fluid, tools, muffler bearings, etc) hence thinking more like ~20k.

Frank, you list $5k in performance upgrades, but don't mention what they are. What are you doing exactly? Unless you buy brakes, Subaru brakes are decently inexpensive compared to some performance cars (ie: porsche, BMW, Lotus).

No I am not listing cuz I have no idea what it takes to make around 300-325whp/wtq. I estimate about 5k, depends what the donor will have already. Also the donor itself could cost more than 5, maybe 8.

Brake I'd use high performance OEM size on 4-pots. Then again if the donor comes with 2-pot and smaller discs, I may want to upgrade.

I could ditch then entire ISIS system, all lightning stuff, the large wing (too much I know, I'd pretty a smaller version, I'll wait to see options) and the heater. I'd remove 6.7k. So I'm down to 39. Now if FFR has a nice color on the gel coat, I'd remove another 3.5k, down to 35.5. That'd make more sense.

But would I be happy like that, I don't know. I plan on using the 818 when outside temps are between 5-15C (40-60F), I think I would need a heater (which doesn't exist yet).

I would think heater pads inserted in the seat would help. It'd be interesting to see if you could also reuse the original heater core (broken down into the minimal amount of parts) with a blower on it too.

Frank818
07-01-2013, 08:43 AM
Speaking of blower, there is no blower and air ducts/vents in the dash and console, right?
That'd be pretty hard with a top and windows closed, no ventilation at all.

At $45K their kits come essentially complete except for an engine, transaxle, and wiring........and they leave the factory with big-azz race brakes. A $5K WRX donor will give you everything you need to finish the car and about $2K back in cash after selling unused parts off.

As the Superlights come with a near-perfect body. Polish the gelcoat (your choice of colour, no less) and you're done ;)

I guess it's a good thing, then, that the 818 comes with NO top, and NO windows ;)

+1; I plan on installing these:

http://www.racing-seats-usa.com/seat-heater.html

My wife has a convertible, and we drive it year round with the top down comfortably, usually with no jackets, with just the seat heaters on (forced air heating does very little in an open top car when the top's down!). Note that the 50's (deg F) is about as cold as it gets in my climate; however, I'm sure you could be fine down to your temp goals (5-15C) with just seat heaters and a jacket (perhaps hat + gloves too).

I have no problem sharing my spreadsheet (it's on Google Drive). I just doubt it would be very useful at this point. If you want to see it, though, PM your email address.

That's a lot of options and new parts, which is why it's adding up so quickly. That would increase the cost of any kit, including a GTM.

I think whether or not that's true depends on what you want. Some of those other options are hard top only. Some are faster, but don't handle quite as well. Some have powertrains that are more costly to maintain. Depending on your goals, I could understanding spending as much on an 818 as it would cost to build a GTM or RCR. That will probably not be the norm, but I'm sure it will be done.

If they put windows and a top, they need to put a blower and some vents. :)

I'm interested to know how you end up on the heater core/fans.

But yeah I admit, 100 bucks for the seat heaters, good one, tnx guys. :)

I would like to create a spreadsheet of build costs, but I am building a race- only 818R, and information is not available (at least that I am aware of) which would allow me to predict cost. Frank818 and others seem to be aware of the costs of some of the CF parts, but I haven't found a primary source document citing those from FFR. Search hasn't helped. Don't know tire and wheel sizes for sure. Can anyone help point me to source of info for the 818R?

Thanks,

Bill

Forgive me if you've already been here, but I'd start with the order form:

http://www.factoryfive.com/order-a-kit/818r-order-form/

That has pricing for all the options currently available for which pricing has been finalized. That WILL change over time (i.e. the Wilwood brakes are not yet listed). That should more or less take care of your kit costs, leaving your donor costs.

Donor cost is going to depend heavily on the route you take: All new parts, running car, donor pallet, or wrecked car. By the way, I listed those from most expensive to least expensive generally - there are bound to be exceptions here and there (except for new parts; pretty much everyone agrees that when it comes to Subaru, the cost of the parts is up there in the "not-even-close-to-worth-it-sphere." There are some threads on donor costs, including money made selling stuff off, so I'd look up those and check them out. Mechie3 is one of the names I remember. If you view his profile, you can search for threads he started. That will make it easier to find.

Hope this helps.
