i posted a new thread in the gtm forum about the mirrors i'm developing. the mirrors will have wide angle cameras in them and send the image to lcds in the car. i could make the base of the mirror to fit the 818. i'm going to overlap the cf in the bottom outside corner so it's not bunched up like the one in the pic. i'm NOT selling anything yet, but will be a vendor here soon. i'm trying to guage interest with the 818 crowd. anyone interested?19113191141911519116

they will come with cameras, rubber seals, aluminum backing plates, washers & locknuts, installation templates, and uv clearcoat ready to install.

I like the idea, but I'm not sold on the aesthetic of a camera/LCD arrangement. Are you planning a more traditional mirror in carbon fiber?

You concider making a 818 door panel with a pocket. I think that would be a hot seller

traditional mirrors with that configuration would be cool too!

it would be too small of a mirror to see properly, it's only 2 inches tall at the widest part. i'm only making the camera version. i got the idea from the porsche 918, i think many other production cars will have them before long. the top of the mirror is level with the bottom of the window on the gtm, eliminating the blindspot beside the a-pillar that the corvette mirrors create.

Do you have any finished ones yet? How much do you plan on selling them for?

A Question for you Carbon: Are rear view cameras legal?
In California (according to a quick google search:)
from the ca vehicle code.
V C Section 26709 Mirrors
Mirrors
26709. (a) Every motor vehicle registered in a foreign jurisdiction and every motorcycle subject to registration in this state shall be equipped with a mirror so located as to reflect to the driver a view of the highway for a distance of at least 200 feet to the rear of such vehicle.
Every motor vehicle subject to registration in this state, except a motorcycle, shall be equipped with not less than two such mirrors, including one affixed to the left-hand side.
(b) The following described types of motor vehicles, of a type subject to registration, shall be equipped with mirrors on both the left-and right-hand sides of the vehicle so located as to reflect to the driver a view of the highway through each mirror for a distance of at least 200 feet to the rear of such vehicle:
(1) A motor vehicle so constructed or loaded as to obstruct the driver's view to the rear.
(2) A motor vehicle towing a vehicle and the towed vehicle or load thereon obstructs the driver's view to the rear.
(3) A bus or trolley coach.
(c) The provisions of subdivision (b) shall not apply to a passenger vehicle when the load obstructing the driver's view consists of passengers
EDIT: Specific federal rules regarding mirrors:

i'm making a finished set now and will sell them for the gtm here soon, until i'm a vendor here i don't want to show finished pics or prices. like i said, after they're out for the gtm, i could make them for the 818 crowd if there was interest. i figured maybe the higher end build guys might be interested.

i haven't checked the other states, i know cali is tough on everything. if they aren't a small mirror could be added to meet legality. i did that on my cbr with a small mirror attached to the fairing and didn't have a problem.

Are you sure that's not a concept?

Can you pm me a idea of a price. Just so I know what your thinking your product is worth. Also how is the picture being displayed? With a screen that you provide or something we need to source on our end.

Also the rear panel with the 2 humps behind our heads, if it can go as high as the roll-bar or just a tidy bit higher, all in CF, that too would be a seller.
There is thread here with photoshoped pix, many people love it! Ok it wasn't in CF but the look of the panel, many loved it.
More of a Ferrari look.

If FFR is not going to offer a Carbon dash for the 818, that is the first product launch I would target. Carbon door panels would be the second, and a center console 3rd.
Mirrors come way, way down my list, anyways.

I agree as well. I was also thinking, if its a camera, it doesn't need to be mounted like a mirror. You just mount it directly to the body, angled out and back.
So while its cool, it sounds to me like there would be more demand for other stuff.

it has to stick out that far on the gtm to see around the rear of the car, really what it was designed for. i might make some pieces specifically for the 818, but it would probably be later, after there were more produced. i was thinking about a center console also.

Mount it to the windshield frame for a better field of view. My biggest problem with mirrors are that they can't see everything. With cameras, you could.

Depending on how small the camera is, it might be possible to mount it on the outer edge of the mirror. I love the original design and just making a small mirror insert would probably satisfy most state regs. I also agree with what other people are saying. The mirrors are nice but wouldn't be in as high in demand as CF dash, console, humps, etc... What would be nice sometime in the future (probably a year or two from now) that somebody would offer a 818 CF kit (an expansion to what FFR offers).

The GTM has a wide behind, that's true.
And it's also true if some day you come up with a lot of other pieces in CF, I'm sure you'd get a lot of demand.
Spoilers, splitters, diffusers, wings, interior stuff, etc.

For those that want CF standard mirrors, for ~$100 you can get CF covers that replace the colored inserts on the 04+ OEM mirrors.
Door panels would be fun, but probably too expensive for me.

+1 as well for cool mirrors. The stock 06 ones just look a little to bulky so I'm shopping for alternatives
