Could the kit be transported on a flat deck trailer? Wondering if the body panels are secure enough. I was going to rent a enclosed trailer, however I can borrow a flat deck. Stewart quoted me $2100 to the Montana/Canada border. I'm about 6hrs north of the border. Any thoughts?

Cant speak for sure about the 818 and how well the individual panels are attached, but without a doubt, many many guys have used flat open trailers to bring other FFRs home. I wold expect that the 818 will be fine as well, you could give FFR a call though to be sure.

I would think that waterproof duct tape would be your friend.

I would shrink rap it a bit and make sure your body is secure, it is only taped together.

Brought m'y mk4 on an open trailer 900 km and no issues at all. The only draw back is it taken for ever to gas up ( because of all the questions and discussion the kits causes!!!)

x2 on all counts for my MK3 coming back to Kitchener, Ontario.

I'll be driving down to pick up my 818 too. It's part of the whole "experience"

One thought, take extra care to protect the body if you are planning to go paintless. Others that may have transported FFR's in the past on a flatbed had the 'luxury' of not having to worry too much about scuffs and such to the body panels during transport, since they would be doing bodywork & paint. I like the shrink wrap idea, as it would both secure and protect the panels.

I wonder if this is something we could arrange with FFR? My guess is they are going to get a lot of requests for it.

I think I'm going to pay the extra money to have mine crated -- whether I have it shipped or go pick it up myself. Once home, the crate will be used as a convenient micro-garage to store components until they are needed.

I just need to make sure that the crate will still fit on a car trailer (if I choose to pick up).
