I got some ideas for a custom door setup on the 818 and I need some good picz of the current setup for hinges, strikers, and supports. Anybody able to post some?

Lambo hinges?

No. Lambo hinges are so 10 years ago. I'm looking at doing koenigsegg ccxr doors on it.™™©®

Dihedral something or other this and that eh? Had to google it. dihedral synchro helix Google image it. you'll see a pic of the actual hinge in a google cache, but you can't view the full size. I researched them a few months ago. Looks way more involved that I can handle anytime soon.

wow those are extremely intense. They look like they have to be a precision mechanism to work. Something like a Swiss watch in your door!!!

Those are perfect if your yacht has one of these.

Its all about customization. If someone can build lambo hinges for a wide array of cars. Why not build these?!?

Those are perfect if your yacht has one of these.Oh man, I love those tables. Since I don't have a million dollar yacht to put one in, I looked into building my own, but I have too many other projects to complete. Maybe one day...

To be clear, I'm not against them. I actually think they're quite interesting and cool. Just don't park too close to the curb! While lambo doors are played out, these are unique, but much more complex (and expensive) for the ricer crowd (thankfully).

Oh I gotcha bud. Bad thing about internets is sarcasm and humor can be lost in translations. Lol. I think these doors could be done for about the same price as a lambo door kit. I just need to get my 818 ordered and start my CAD work :D

I don't see how that applies to the 818 doors...............how would you apply it, how would it function?

I found a company that makes a similar type set up, but they are asking 15k for two hinges.....Sheesh. Honestly Rip, you just need to get the door to swing clear of the jamp, then a way to rotate it up. sounds easy in principal, but once you start to have to calculate lift capasities with struts and hinge placement, it can become complicated quickly.
Its an idea, I like the customization of the setup and look of the doors up. Would give the car a little bit more of an exotic look. :D It may never happen or work. I will be doing the Interior and some other changes to the body well before I would do this project though.

Not quite. That's how a lambo retrofit kit works: swing clear, rotate up. A dihedral synchro helix door works by swinging out, then, simultaneous rotating the back upwards, and moving forward and down about a compound axis (ie: not a single rotation point). Simply getting the hinge to work properly is difficult due to the compounded motions.

Oh I see what your saying. Watching the videos of the true Koenegsegg (sp) door operate is magical. I doubt I could completely replicate that, but to do something close to it would be pretty sweet. just RnD time.

No, lol, I meant there appears to be a car-modding rule analogous to Rule 34, i.e. if you can think up a mod, somebody somewhere has tried it. In no way shape or form do i consider that Mazda auto-pron.

Rule 34?
:scratches head:
edit: I watched the video. While I commend their efforts and give them an A, the execution is.....ehh. It was clearly two distinct steps of swing open, rotate up. Not as smooth as the spiraling of the koeniggsegg door.

I found a company called raptor doors that makes (made?) these. Website is copyright 2006/7 and is terrible. I don't think they exist. They do have this fun little youtube video giving very good insight into the hinge mechanism.
Not 100% sure what mounts where. Door mounts to round part, can't tell after that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjaecDaQkL0
edit: It seems that the hinge at the end and the round part are always parallel to each other, thus I'm assuming the flat part mounts to the car. As it open, the large arm swings out as it rotates. There must be another linkage on teh backside that makes the entire round end rotate about the vertical axis while the gears (the dihedral synchro, if you will) controls rotation.

sorry...bored at work. My boss told me to "go machine something fun" when I asked for work yesterday. I guess researching doors counts too.
