View Full Version : Coyote guys...engine wiring harness

Obviously, I have to make some effort to hide the main engine harness and the PCM. After unwrapping the mess around the front of the right head, it looks like I can stretch things a little. If I extend the 5 wires that go to the throttle actuator and the 2 wires on the TPS, I can move the point where I can bend the main harness back about 6 inches. It requires unwrapping and rewrapping, plus a few wire ties, but it will put the main harness under the engine cover and it will exit the rear. Option 1 is I can cut a hole in the firewall and sit the PCM right on Mike's dash panel filler. That's going to require a huge grommet. Option 2 is to mount both the PCM and Power Distribution box on the footbox and make a cover box that would provide exit points for all the other cables and also store excess. If I'm not practical about my neatness OCD, I could very easily spend the next year extending and shortening wires.
I'll add a few pics to this later.

In addition to the Ford stuff, I have to find a home for my ISIS front power cell. I think I have it all narrowed down to this:
PCM: Mounted either through the firewall or on the firewall, just about in the middle. It will be removable with the engine in place, but the plugs will be a bear if the box is surface mounted facing down. The large cable can go through a grommet at the top of the firewall, before the body is mounted.
Power D-box: This can go up under the dash, mounted to the 2X2 with the LED windows facing down, probably near the right end of the dash. All the other cables will reach their destinations except the O2 sensors, but there are readily available extensions for those.
ISIS Mastercell: Under the dash behind a console panel I will have to make.
ISIS Powercell: On the firewall, above or adjacent to the PCM, depending on how the PCM is mounted.
Cable routing: I'm going to try not to look at it too much.

I was able to bring the harness that comes to the front of the engine and fold it back on itsself and exit the rear of the cover without any modification. My plan is to fabricate a bracket that will attach the PCM to the structural steel at the firewall just above the bell housing. I have shortened the main harness (I cut out about 14-16 inches) and ran it through the firewall low enough that I can make a cover that approximates the shape of the factory cover to hide all of the wiring. As always i have a plan but it is subject to change.

My situation is a little complicated by the fact that I want to hide as much stuff as possible, and still leave room for the 2 ISIS modules. I'm pretty well set on what I want to do now, but I have no room for a heater in the future. All that space is now occupied by bundles of excess wire.

Here's what I decided on for a PCM location. This location is within reach of the 70-pin plug on the engine harness. The rest of the harness is hidden.

This is my choice for ISIS Powercell #1: I can run the wires from the left side plug behind the unit so I can hide most of them. The Mastercell will be under the dash.

The Ford Power Distribution Box is going to be behind the dash with the LED windows visible from below. It's removable for service. Right now it's sitting on Mike's dash filler panel, but that will get a hole cut so the two bottom holes on the mounting flange will attach to the 2x2 frame member.

I had to "peel" the harness so I could gain a few inches by changing the location of the point where it would bend back:

This is what I ended up with. It'll stay hidden under the engine cover.

The rear of the engine conceals all the "business" stuff. The 2 water lines will be trimmed and connected with a tee for my temp sending unit.

That looks good with not too many visible wires. I like how you have the fuel pressure regulator connected to the engine. What AN adapter did you use to connect the braided line to the fuel rail?

FFR sends several push-lock to barb adapters with the kit. It's part of the fuel system package. I used one with a couple of clamps since it's hidden under the engine cover anyway. The genuine push-lock to AN adapters are over $20.

I've been wiring, wiring, wiring for over 2 weeks now. I have managed to hide all the giant cables that come with the PCM. Some were modified by unwrapping and changing the locations of the branch runs. The only wire I cut and lengthened was the one holding the 5A fuse for the O2 sensors. Anyway, I'm 90% done with the entire wiring system (ISIS plus PCM) and very little of it shows. I'm going to switch over to bodywork since the shop called and wants the body in a week. I have to get the hidden mounts and hidden hood latch done before i send it. I'll post some pics of the electrical layout in a day or so.

I need a coolant diagram we started wiring last week and have a ways to go yet, but the guys need something to do so I told them cooling lines. David thought you had a diagram for the cooling flow, we got an 2011 surge tank and the MAF from C&L so we are getting closer. Email me the diagram if you can, Richard.
