View Full Version : Missing Parts - Rad Hose Adapters

So it's taken me two years to get to the point I am ready to put the radiator in. And also oddly enough the same time I realised that I do not have those adapter parts to connect that stainless flexible hose to the radiator/engine etc.

The plus was I gave my garage a mighty good clean looking for them. As a last resort I checked my inventory list, and doh - these were marked as not sent/received. And silly me forgot to let FFR know way back when (there was a couple other things they were only too quick to help me with, I just forgot these particular things).

Anyway, so now that I need them, can anyone please tell/show me what I need? I would buy from the FFR parts website but they are not listed, so maybe a Summit or somebody can assist.

I do see Summit sell a similar looking hose, but is it the same as the FFR one? Would their adapters fit? I notice that the engine inlet and radiator nozzles are all 1.5", but the FFR metal flex hose is maybe 1/8" or so bigger. Do the adapters stretch to fit the larger flex hose?

Or can I use 1.5" rubber radiator hose and some clamps and just stretch it up of the end of the larger metal flex hose. I worry the stretch may fail the rubber rad hose.

Thanks

Throw that corrugated tubing in the trash and use either regular rubber hoses or a stainless bent tube with a bead rolled on the end and smaller sections of hose (Breeze offers these for some engine combos).

There have been way too many reports (and I've seen other cars personally have issues) with those tubes not holding tight and blowing off...

Thx Mark. Is the corru tube really that bad? It does seem a convenient way to go. With my LS3 installation it means I cannot buy a solution from Breeze or the like, so everything is custom. I was trying to find some off the shelf tubes in straight and elbows with the right beads etc I could use and perhaps make a solution but I have not found anything as yet.

Some don't like the look. But the main problem with the corrugated hoses is they can blow off. I used them in my Mk3, and based on a suggestion I read on another forum, changed to T-clamps and I haven't had any problems in 2,000+ miles. The T-clamps allow a much tighter grip than the standard worm drive clamps, plus they have a wider gripping surface. Others have reported using them also with good success.

Some guys use two worm drive clamps. I've also seen posts that show adding a screw into the stainless then putting the coupler and and clamp over that. Again to prevent the corrugated from blowing out. Looks like it would work, but I haven't tried it.

You can see the T-clamps in this picture of my Mk3. (click the thumbnail, and click again in Photobucket to see more detail)

Jegs and Summit both have them. Also, Jegs has this cool cover if you do not want to see the rubber.
