View Full Version : Brake Reservoir Placement

I purchased two stainless brake reservoirs from FFR (http://www.factoryfiveparts.com/brake-reservoir-components/).
The don't fit in the area indicated in the manual for a single reservoir, so I am thinking of putting them on the firewall.
Does anyone have photos or suggestions on where on the firewall (or elsewhere) these should be placed. I don't want to put them somewhere which may interfere with a future step in the build.
Thanks

Put mine on the firewall and close to the edge of hood opening (pretty close to intake). I can see the levels and easy enough to add fluid. Flange is 3.5 inches deep.

WEK.

Here's where I placed mine, on a home-made bracket:

BTW the tape on the upper rail is where I measured the hood strut would be when the hood was closed. The reservoirs are completely accessible then the hood is open. Lots of folks have mounted them in this spot.

If you are going to build an FFR properly, you have to master the art of taking simple solutions and making them way complex, just because you can. Anything else and you're not a true FFR builder...

Here's my reservoir mounting...

Start with bolts that have been properly placed on the firewall and stood off with locknuts on both sides:

Then add a plate with properly spaced holes fashioned into keyslots. Attach the reservoirs to this plate.

And here's what it looks like mounted to the firewall. The spring clips at the bottom lock it down. To check/fill the fluid, click open the clips, release the plate, and bring the whole thing in front of you...

I should point out it wasn't my idea - someone else had posted a similar device on the other forum and I found it irresistibly over-engineered so I had to copy it and make my own!

Thanks for the feedback.
I went along the lines of David's solution. It was pretty quick and easy.
Here is a picture. I used 1 flat piece and one corner piece of aluminum, which I painted black.
The reservoirs are loose, so they don't look even, but they are. I just need to touch up the paint.

Thanks again - I don't know what I'd do without this forum.
