Errr, not many details are there, but I would bet that's an 06 WRX with a factory 2.5L engine. The hood, bumper, lights, and wheels are all definitely 06. The mirrors are black plastic which, IIRC, only came on the TR model (first offered in 06).

It could be an 07. Can't tell from that pic. I'd get more pics, but it'd be an awesome buy if it was an 06.

It's possible, but that's a lot of work, and he likely would have mentioned it. He probably wouldn't have swapped from colored to non colored mirrors. We really just need more details (like, motor pic, brake pics).
