Hi Everyone,

My name is Duane. I'm married with 3 lovely kids. I was in the Marine Corps and then became a Flight Paramedic. Now I just work in a local hospital. I am looking to order a stage I 33 kit soon. Been lurking on here and the other forum for awhile now. Finally getting up the nerve to take the plunge. I will need all the help I can get as this will be a family build with my 7 and 6 yr old.

I am looking at a few mustang donor cars to start with. I am familiar with the 302 but need some help with the trans. Is the AOD a good one to get for the 33? Im kinda looking at the auto as I've heard there is not a lot of foot room. I am 6'1 240(ish);) Both cars have the 8.8 rear end as well.

And Thank you in advance for the help!!

Welcome to the forum. I am building a 33 using an AOD for the transmission. Using the AOD you will need to use a TV cable for proper operation, the newer AODE (electronic) transmissions do not need the TV cable but shift electronically. The transmission cover for the automatics is larger than the one for a manual, but most cut out the side and install a plate to allow more foot room. You and your family will enjoy the build.

thank you Doug. Is the AOD ok for the 33 really? Not going to use it for racing. just cruising with the top off

Duane, Our Plant manager Nate Johnson built a 33 for his dad. AOD and all mustang donor running gear. He is a great guy to talk to about the build. He just got back from the Hot Rod Power tour and 1400 miles of driving 5 Factory Five's, including his dad's. The AOD 340 hp car he built was a favorite of all the people who drove it.

Welcome to the ffr family. I am building a 33 currently. You will have so much fun on the build. The AOD will work fine for you. My donor was a T5 manual. I wish I went with a auto for more foot room but I can't complain on my donor cost. I modified the trans tunnel and brake pedal and have plenty of room. I am 6'3", size 12 shoe and 230lb and fit fine.
