I've been lurking here for quite a while, but joined last week since I am now progressing toward a 818 build.

My friend Dave and I both turn 50 this year, so we decided to make this a project for the two of us. Delivery won't be until next year, but the planning has begun. I plan to do a street car with modest power. Nothing too exotic.

We'll be at the open house this Saturday with our wives. Hope to meet some of you there.

You might be able to tell from the user name that I'm a Ham. Where to put an antenna on the 818, hmm. ;-)

Hi Larry,

I'm in Maryland too, specifically in Greenbelt just northeast of DC. My son and I will be building an 818S early next year with the pieces from a 2002 WRX that we will start dismantling in a month or so. We hope to take delivery of a kit January 27 (my son's birthday).

We attended the FFR Roadster build class when my son JP was 15, and had planned on putting together a Roadster once he finished college. But then we found out about the 818. We were thinking of going to the open house this weekend, but I have to be in Providence next month for work anyway, so we're going to visit the showroom then.

It would be great to cooperate/commiserate with nearby builders. We should keep in touch.

Best,

James

I just noticed that you're in Arbutus. That's not far at all from Greenbelt. Do you do autocross or rallycross with the WDCR SCCA, by any chance?

Nope, my 2 1/2 ton Grand Cherokee doesn't do that too well. I bet I can take you in the woods though!

That's possible, but my son and I took first and second in our rallycross class last year (driving a $1k Subaru wagon we got off of Craigslist). It's not the woods exactly, but it's lots of dirt, mud, rocks, and trees.

If you ever want to try autocross, we'd be happy to show you the ropes in the DC area. These 818s are going to be a blast on an autocross course.

Another MD guy here.. Southern Maryland, delivery of our 818 set for Nov 16th currently but we're on the hotlist as well.

I picked up a 05 donor last week, starting to rip it apart now.

Have you guys started to research the registration hoops we're going to have to jump through to get things registered for the street yet?
