I'm currently trying to decide between the kirkney aluminum seats or something like a sparco evo. The kirkney seats are priced good, and will probably be the lowest possible position. However I personally think they look too "race car" for me, at least a touch more then a composite fabric bucket. I think the GTM seats will be a little high, but I'm looking for suggestions, or just your plans so I can steal them, :)

I like Corbeau because the non fiberglass buckets have some give to the seat base (spinging).

There is a good thread full of many options:

http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?8457-Seating-Options

I am still sorting this question out myself, while not a wookie at 6 feet tall. I hope to learn more at the open house on June 15 and am interested in finding out more. When I sat in the 818R at moochfest it felt like there was ample room for my legs, while the 818S frame with GTM seats felt a little short for me. The other difference was the 818R has the Wilwood pedals and the 818S frame was set up with WRX pedals which may have made a difference in leg room. I am not certain how comfortable the Kirkeys will be for long drives I like so much.

Cheers!

I got a set of Kirkey seats cheap from a MarkIII builder who changed his mind. I am 6'3" and fit fine in them.

Corbeau Pro for me.

Hi bnr32jason,

Sure are some great options from Corbeau such as:

Corbeau Pro: $320 each + $129 each for FIA seat mounts
Forza Sport (FIA): $320 each + $129 each for seat mounts

http://www.racing-seats-usa.com/corfixback.html

The custom Kirkey upholstery in that 33 sure has a classic tan grommet/leather look!

Cheers!

Thanks for the link, I didn't realize there was already a thread about it. I gave up on the search function awhile ago. I'd love a set of porsche GT3 (996 or 997) replicas, but none of them are FIA approved. And for 800-1000 a seat I should find something that is. Used GT3 seats still cost a ton, and I don't want the Porsche emblem.

i'm using the sparco crono sport in my gtm. $1000/pair. they are a fixed back fiberglass seat. light, look good, and they use side mount brackets which would make it easy to get 'em close to the seat pan. i've cut the bottom corner out of mine, made a mold, and made new ones in carbon fiber. i couldn't get the clearance between my head and the rollcage without the modification. they're only 14 inches wide in the back though, i don't know if they make a wide version like some companies do. not fia though, didn't see that's what you were looking for at first. i've got the corbeau forza seats in one of my other cars, they're decent, and fia.

I'm looking at these (Bimarco Futura). They fit me well (6' 1" on a good day, just under 200lbs, 34" waist, 34" inseam) and are $400 each. Fiberglass and FIA homologated.

I'm 6'3" 250ish and I have a Sparco Evo 3, sitting in my kitchen ready to fit in my future track car. (it won't fit in my Boxster unless I take some of the interior out) It's the widest seat they make and fits me well in the hips. The top is a little short, but the seat is vary comfortable. I've raced in kirkeys and their sides tend to bother me getting in and out, and after an hour or two the padding on the sides doesn't help much. You can get any seat recovered to make it look the way you want, and add foam to make them more comfortable, but you can't change the shape/side bolster without screwing with certifications. Sitting in lots of seats is the best way to find out what you want. If your going to be spending a grand on a seat, spending some money to go to a store to test fit is worth it. (Just don't window shop and order the seat off the internet, I have to many friends that are small business owners that see that all the time, not cool.)

Nice seats but where are you seeing them for $400 for a pair?

I Google'd them and the eBay sales all came up around $329 each + $90 shipping. Standard website sell them for about $400 each.

I've sat in the futura as did my wife (she's only 5'1"). We both thought it was extremely comfortable.

Has any photos of an 818 with GTM seats been released? Posts and comments from the GTM forum make it seem that the GTM uses a very laid back seating position which doesn't seem appropriate to the 818 - at least from photos so far.

I think the go kart at sema had GTM seats.

I was considering the evo 3, or a evo 2 plus. Unfortunately not a lot of race shops locally to test out seats. I thought evo 3 would be a safe bet, and I could always add padding, but I'm wondering if two evo 3's would fit in the 818? That's my main concern, hoping to see some aftermarket buckets installed so I can compare measurements.

Even at $395 each, I think they aren't too bad. I might consider spending the extra over the Corbeau FX1 Pro's that I was set on before. They really are great looking seats.

I'll probably either use Kirkeys or maybe GTM seats, although I'm pretty sure the Kirkeys will give the most legroom.

I just noticed that GTM seats are like $1100/pr. You can get a pair of FIA certified race buckets for that kind of dosh!

This is a very interesting seat, Lightweight (18 lb each), FIA homologation and HANS compatible for only $395 each when 2 or more are purchased. And it looks sweet! Thank you for the find Mechie!

I have been considering the Momo Starts or Sparco Sprint V's...but realized I don't plan on racing the car competitively so a good non-FIA seat would be fine (not random ebay seat) so I'm strongly considering the Corbeau FX1 Pro, as they have bottom and side mounts and you can buy a Subaru specific bracket w/ double locking slider for like $125/seat. I've heard bottom mounts with a fiberglass seat tend to be flexy, does anyone have experience w/ the buddy club brackets? Seems like they would bind if you don't get the spacing perfect since they're independent sliders. Other thought is to get the Corbeau brackets and just fab up a simple L bracket to reinforce the sides to the bottom bracket...like a regular side mount, but with just holes to reinforce the seat itself. Have to see if I can figure out a place to actually get into some of these seats!

I know when I researched things ten years or so ago "Cobra Seats" in the UK appeared to be by far the most competent of the lower cost composite seats.

In the event of an accident, the seat would be subjected to some seriously high loads. I will not trust a non-name brand with my life.

Pure coincindence. I was at the Peru National Match Tour a weekend ago and SPS was there with 5 or 6 seats on display. That one fit me the best and was the most comfortable. The other one was a corbreau something or other (little narrow), kirkey aluminum, kirkey spec miata, and some others that were too narrow.
