After almost three months, I picked up my body today from the painter. PPG base coat/ clear coat which was color sanded and buffed. The color is 1964 Ford Guardsman Blue. I originally didn't want "another blue car" and was considering first a British Racing Green and then Wimbledon White but I saw a solid blue MkII at the Run to the Sun car show this spring at Myrtle Beach (SC) and went with the blue. The paint is perfect and looks a foot deep. As soon as I can get a couple of coats of Dupli-Color bedliner on the undersides, I can get the body on the chassis.

That is really, really nice looking. I love the color... especially without the stripes - your car is going to look very classy!

Great looking color. I'm kind of in the same boat on choosing a color. you are right... not another blue. the blue that you choose is outstanding and with out the strip, it isn't "another" blue one. I'm still on the fence about the color I'm going to choose. Planning on mine being a daily drive and I have a heavy right foot... so that leaves out red, yellow, black looks great but, I don't want to spend most of my time trying to keep it clean. I'm currently thinking about a dark green with cream color striping.

Are you mounting stainless/chrome up against the blue or going all black?

Worth the wait!
Color looks great! I know it's another blue car, BUT there's a reason! Blue IS THE color for these cars!
I'm planning on blue too, WHICH blue is the question.
(is there a reason you are doing the bed-liner after paint? I thought they suggest before(?)

And don't forget to post more pics as you get the body mounted.

so tell us about your truck too! looks cool.

Ron, I think you will find that by going with the classic Guardsman blue, your color will be quite unique among your Cobra friends. At least out here in Cali, it seems NO ONE goes with an original color combo! Therefore, unless the is an SPF or Shelby in the mix, mine is the only "classic blue" one there.

I LOVE Guardsman blue! Now that mine is this color I wouldn't want it to be anything else.

BTW Guardsman/Wimbledon was my 3rd choice. The 1st, my painter refused to paint. The second, my family veto'd. I'm glad they did.

David, You have to spill the beans on that. What was choice 1 and 2?

Thanks guys..........I appreciate the feedback.
As tropical storm Andrea passes over the area, just spent most of the day staring at the paint on the body. The weather is just to bad to start on the undercoat. The more I look at it, the more I like it. That is not saying that the BRG or white would not have looked good also. Since I did go with a blue color, I just had to go with the original Guardsman Blue.
I'm applying the bedliner after painting because I had the inside of the wheels, trunk and door openings painted also (about a 1.5" band). This way, I wouldn't have to bring the edge of the bedliner all the way to the edge of the openings. Also, had the painter spray the inside around the vents blue also so that if you are looking under the hood, those areas will be the body color. The body is sitting on the cart I made for the painter. I just put it up on jackstands so I can sit on my creeper stool and roll around and get the bedliner applied. Shouldn't be too bad.
This is a strict street version...............no roll bar, no hood scoop, glove box and "street" gauge (Smiths) layout, under car exhaust system, front and rear bumpers and over riders.
For others to compare, the price for the paint job was $6,100 which from the posts I read, isn't too far out of line. The painter has a very nice restoration shop and only does one kind of paint job....has to be perfect. He had just finished a total restoration on a 1962 fuel-injected Corvette. I stared at it for 30 minutes and could not find any flaw.....absolutely beautiful.
The truck is a 1952 Chevy 3100 I bought about 3 years ago. It's an older restoration that has been well maintained. I drive it 3-4 times a week and it always get comments. Here in the south, everyone loves old trucks.

David - your car is just outstanding!!

Thanks,
Ron
