I just finished stripping my Impreza. It is a coparts car and I have an Ohio salvage title in hand.
Do I need the impreza salvage tilte when I go to register the 818 in Ohio?
Is the scrap yard going to want my title when I drop it off this week?
Should I save the VIN plates off the impreza before I scrap it?
Thanks Bob

Hey Bob!
Hope you, Michael and the ailing wagon are doing well. Ohio isn't as easy as Indiana but friends there report that it is not an especially difficult process, just tedious and needs to be followed to the letter. The idea I get from most is that you need to prove ownership of all major components then go through a verification inspection. I think your best bet to get the most responses from owners who have gone through the process recently is to post this question in the roadster subforum both here and on "the other" forum.
Cheers,
Jeff

Ohio is not too difficult. When I went thru the process with my roadster it was important to have as much ownership documentation as possible including receipts for major components and and VIN's that are associated with these parts. If you organize it with a list they appreciate the effort at the inspection station. You will need to schedule an inspection at one of the few inspection stations in the state in advance. Then just show up with the car and your documentation and they will perform the cursory inspection. No specific driving tests or safety inspections were performed. It was clear that they were looking for identification numbers on the motor, trans etc. If you pass, they will submit your application to the state for your new VIN. Within a couple of weeks you will be contacted to return to the inspection station for the installation of your VIN plate. I purchased my drive train from a forum vendor and did not have the original VIN but did have all receipts and I passed without any issues. Good luck.

Thanks Jeff
I found most my answeres on registering hereat http://www.ohiocobraclub.com/registration.html
Michael and the ailing wagon are doing well. We rebuilt the engine out of my doner (above) (bent valves from timing belt damage). We drove it to carlisle pa and have run 3 races since , all is well. We are running Kil-Kare this weekend and the columbus IN next. See you there or in London on the 22nd.

When I scrapped my chassis it was cut into many pieces, the biggest being about 70lbs so I could easily move them and load a trailer.
Yard 1 (a bigger, more commercial yard) said they wouldn't take any chassis without a title and any chassis cut into more than 2 parts. They were buying the car.
Yard 2 (a more local yard where guys take aluminum cans and the like) said "if it's in more than 2 parts, it's no longer a car, but just plain scrap". They didn't ask for anything other than ID. I kept the title, the vin tags, and cut the VIN off the firewall and kept that.

I thnk the best thing to do is your #2, as I get to keep the title as proof of ownership.

Have you already seen the SEMA guide for Ohio (http://www.bipac.net/semaga/TagTitleToolbox_OH.pdf)?

thanks Evan.
The ohio guide says you need to show proof of ownership of donor parts. Copies of documents are not acceptable. Every salvage yard wanted my title.
Like Mechie3, I found one that was more of a metal recycle center that would take it if no engine or gas tank. They took it without my title.
So all is good now
