I'm either doing something wrong or there's a better way to skin this cat... When mounting the windshield washer arms yesterday, I was very nervous because the small rubber gasket that goes between the chromed cover and the painted body of the car, was NOT fitting very well. There seems like a very good possibility that as I tighten the wiper mount, the chromed cover is going to dig into the paint quite substantially. I therefore a larger gasket, but it extends 1/4" beyond the chrome piece, so doesn't look all that great.

Looking to figure out if I did something wrong, or if anyone has a better way to do this that would mount these properly without scaring the paint.

I think the older ones were a plastic that didn't fit very well at all. I ended up cutting some new ones out of a piece of an inner tube.

I agree. The supplied gaskets don't fit well at all. I made new ones out of some neoprene sheet.
