UPDATED - 5/25/16 - As a follow-up to my recent TTT on the hood scoop mod, here's one for those of you who may be looking for something to replace your FFR scoop without having to do a mod to make it look more period correct.
Original Post Follows......
For those of you with a Mk4 (i.e., a hood with no hole) and the desire for a more authentic scoop, you may want to consider the Kirkham version. I'm not sure if they sell these, but here are a couple of pics of their version. I tried it on my Mk3 that has the molded-in scoop cut off and the hole is just too big - necessitating some drastic fiberglass repair before this would work. But, for those of you who have to cut your own hole and can size it appropriately, this may be just the ticket.

My FFR rivet on scoop. I cut off the moulded scoop.

... or you could mod your FFR rivet on scoop - here's what mine looks like (before and after) once I followed CompetitionCobra's suggestion to take a 3/4" pie-shaped slice out of each side and then bend the top down to meet the bottom. As it comes from FFR, the scoop has a very flat top that is parallel to the ground, but note the subtle curvature to the top of the scoop in the after photo, which more closely matches the radius of the hood. For the sake of comparison, the last pic is of CSX3049; one of the original S/C cars.

Gumball,
Can you post exact dimensions of the cut out? I want to do the same on my Mk 4. The curved look is better. Carl

Carl,
The cuts are 3/4" tall at the front and they taper back 12" from the front. At the rear of the slits, I first drilled a 1/8" hole to relieve any stress as the top of the scoop bent down. I pulled the top and bottom together until there was about 1/8" between them, then held them together with a couple of thin gauge aluminum scraps (about 3/8" wide by 1 1/2" long) and a couple of clecos. The center line of the slits are about centered on the sides of the scoop, too.
You'll have to look at the scoop under good reflective conditions to see if you have any sharp creases or bends... I started with slits that were about 10" and worked my way up to 12" to avoid a sharp crease (almost imperceptible) that surely would have been vary visible once the scoop is painted.
Hope that helps!

A few years ago, I had the good fortune to have a Kirkham 427 roller in my shop for storage while I was doing bodywork. I used that car as an example for a number of things and recently found this thread on the hood scoop.
So, as a follow-up to my recent TTT on the FFR hood scoop mod, I thought I'd bring this one back up to the top for those of you with a Mk4 and an interest in a more authentic shaped hood scoop.
