Went to FFR to pick up a Hot Rod for a customer on Saturday. Got to meet Metalmaker while I was there. Jim K was there as well. Had a long chat with both of them as well as Dave Smith.
The excitement that I saw with this chat was very promising. Dave has a great product about to be released and his customers are as excited as he is. Great to see the final stages of this kit coming together.

It was a fun time, nice to meet you and your QA was spot on:D. I am working on the harness options and it should be a good outcome. Keep in touch man

I hope he means he's working with the FF team to diet the harness or developing a standalone harness (which I imagine would be cost prohibitive considering all the oem connectors)

FFR offers a wiring harness and EFI harness each under $500.00 in their parts dept. for the MKIV, it would be a reasonable assumption they'd offer one for the 818.

Many companies, including Ford themselves, have 5.0 harness available. I'm guessing that FFR just re-brands one of them. Nobody, at this point, makes a Subaru engine harness to re-brand.
I wonder if FFR thinks it can sell enough 818s to sway somebody into making one....

It could use a diet plus the FFR extensions etc. I will be part of a team that will be offering this service to 818 customers along with open source dyno tunes and pretty much anything else. Regarding the harness the key point will be cost-effectiveness and low weight, but anyone can have what they want, in terms of a custom setup etc. More to come on this once we have a template harness and 818 as a test mule. Have no worries the stock harness works, it is just big and bulky and heavy, but for those that want to lighten and simplify it we will be offering this trim down and cleanup to power a variety of different year Subaru setups Usdm,Jdm,wrx, sti avcs and non etc. Any questions or interest pm me, thanks

What price point are you trying to hit for a basic harness?

500 for a diet and proper FFR extension points, 550 for diet and full wire extensions. 600 if you need to add etc. These are pretty close ball parks, and shipping is on the costumer to and from, off coarse local drop off and pickup will be a better option. This is about 2-3 months out, so bare with us on getting this up and running. The shop that we will be using to do the business transactions is Wicked Innovation in West Kingstown R.I, which is a very reputable Subaru tuner/race shop.

Wait, so are you dieting the EXISTING donor harness, or providing a completely NEW harness?

It sounds like a great service, and one I'll probably take advantage of. My kit's due in October, and I shouldn't need the harness until late this year, so the timeline should work.

The other options will be more ( full pre made harness, or prologic custom setup with cluster) unless you do it yourself, or just leave it really bulky. That is reasonable for custom wire work of this nature, and more goes into it than one might think.
18181 this FFR harness is not even 1/10th the wires of the subaru one and it is $500. So to cut one down to like 20-30lbs correctly from like 60lbs is very time consuming, and just about worth it to complete at the suggested price.
