Issues with FFR Daytona:
1. Turn signal stopped working. Fuse intact. Pulled the fuse panel on the Ron Harris harness. Found no obvious loose wires or bad connections. Re-installed fuse panel. Turn signals work.
2. Air conditioner fan stopped working. Fuse intact. Tabled problem for later action.
3. Today, electric fan stopped working. Green indicator light is illuminated. Fuse intact. Radiator boils over. Called AAA for haul back to my garage.

Any ideas for trouble-shooting or professional assistance? I have owned this car for three weeks. It has less than 6000 miles on the odometer.

Howdy,

Sounds like you just need a little "ol' fashion" troubleshooting.

Sounds like you have a loose wire(s) or possible a ground problem.

Is your fan controlled by a relay and if so is it working properly?

Based on the symptoms you could have corrosion problems at the connections. I had an MGB years ago wilts similar issues.

I would recommend:

1. Pulling the fuses individually and making sure you have good clean connections in the fuse box;
2. Do the same on any connection that exist on the faulty circuit;
3. Check to see if you have power to the relay (both control and power)..You may be able to hear it pick up. If you know you have power to the relay and have a spare, de energize the circuit and install the spare to eliminate the relay as the problem; and,
4. Make sure your grounds for the faulty circuit are good, if there is a corroded or loose ground you won't have a good circuit.

Check the fan relay for the fan not working. That relay gets really hot so I can't imagine it being able to last real long.

Did all of these functions fail at the same time, or one at a time? Trying to determine if you have 3 separate problems, or a shared problem? If they all failed at the same time, you are most likely looking at a single failure.

Do you have a copy of the wiring diagrams/schematics? If you do, look for anything that is common between these functions. They may share a ground, splice, or pass through the same connector.

The good news is you don't have a short or ground fault issue (like fuse box frame touching flasher module) since you have no blown fuses. So from safety perspective it is a less concerning problem (burning up the car). So treat each issue separately. I would check the radiator fan motor by applying power directly to the motor terminals and see if it runs. Next check the relay by changing out a good one. If those don't work you have a loose connection and it will probably be a loose ground wire or loose wire in the connector itself. Then you begin checking each segment of wiring starting at the fan motor back using continuity meter. I had a similar problem with my solenoid wire. It turned out to be the least likely thing which was a bad matchup connection on one of the main body harness plugs on a brand new wiring harness so it was the last thing I checked. If you break down each circuit check like above you will eventually track it down. I only addressed the fan issue because that will let you drive. Good luck, WEK.

Note: if you see that the wiring is done kind of haphazardly or just doesn't look right, you might want to install some ground bars in strategic places and run your grounds to those places. The ground bars usually have two screws to attach and you can insure a solid ground source that way. Then the add ons are simply pushed under the individual screws.

Each problem originated on a seperate occasion. Currently, (pun intended) the turn signals operate. The other two problems still exist. Yes, I have the diagram and the complete installation manual for the harness.

Well, I'm off to buy a relay and will see if a swap solves the problem. I did find one parts store open on Sunday. I'll buy two and keep a spare in the car. I must admit I was spoiled by my 1987 BMW 325. That car had a fuse box under the hood with a clear plastic cover so you could check every fuse at a glance. It also had slots for a spare fuse of every amperage. Maybe I'll get around to fabricating something similar. As the new owner of F5R 000387CP, I'm usually having too much fun driving it to want to tinker with it!

Okay, I installed the new relay and the fan is running.
