View Full Version : Graduation: How about Summer School?

I will be driving the roadster in primer this summer so I guess it's going to summer school instead of being graduated. My plan is to drive and do bodywork and fitment in between trips and then re-primer the area. It's not like a real paint job. I think they call it "suede". Anyway, I couldn't wait any longer and I'm glad I'm doing it this way. I have already had some interesting experiences like pulling up to the local coffee shop and a group of ladies sitting outside saying, "Thank you for turning that off. We know you like it but it's too loud". So I must be doing something right. The whole time I was in the shop, people were stopping and walking around the car: young, middle aged, and older ones. Maybe they were looking for badges.

So going to summer school is not all bad. Here are some shots of the bad roadster. Had to include the new Cobra R wheels to show there is hope for it (wheels make the hot rod).

Thanks,

WEK.

Skullandbones Looks good to me.. And is the old gals think it is too loud, the younger ones will love it. Nothing wrong with primer after all you are driving it not sitting around Wayne

Thanks, Wayne.

That is the main thing: to drive! I have been waiting so long, couldn't wait any longer. Summer is our down time here in AZ. But I still will have some opportunities to exercise the roadster and work on the body and fitment a little at a time. It's priceless to see people's reactions to these cars no matter what stage they're in. We were at a restaurant walking in one morning and a guy and his wife were gettingout of their vehicle. The guy just walked by but his wife stopped and said, "I really like your car". So it will be appreciated by most of the people you meet. See ya, WEK.

I think it looks great! I'd hesitate to ever paint it if I had one that looked like that.

WARNING!!! Getting it running and licensed before finishing your build will significantly delay project completion.
(ask me how I know!)

Seriously, driving is WAY TOO FUN!
Congratulations! Now get some skin on those nice wheels and hit the streets!

I was driving home today and pulled up to the light. A new white Toyota pulls up next to me with an elderly, white-haired lady driving, she looked at the Roadster, then looked at me and gave me the thumbs-up. I couldn't help but crack a smile!

Looks great. I've been thinking of registering it with the gel coat (like MPTech) and enjoying it for a while before giving it up for 6 weeks. That's assuming I can get it done while there is still some time before winter.

The thumbs-up, looks, smiles and comments can be addictive and a gas stop can be 20 minutes answering questions. To me, the ladies usually said, "That looks like fun" and then walked away. I know "WEK" (which stands for Women Every Knight - he's not a good speller) and he will get many ladies asking for a ride.

If you haven't seen the Coolest Thing thread, search for it and read it all.
Pete

Well since they say you never really finish building them anyway, I guess I will be OK. MPTech is that a Sonic? I plan to make that one of my stops with a pic of a roller skating waitress.

AZPete, I bet you're missing the attention. But maybe you'll get it back with your next project. Instead of saying, " is it a real one", they will be saying, " what is it?" Ha! Have you got your elevator speech figured out, yet!

Thanks guys, WEK.

Looks great!!! Just get those wheels on!!! With the tires you have on now....it reminds me of that guy at the gym that works out his upper body but has those little legs LOL. Cant wait to go for a cruise with you and the other Arizona guys

Hey Lucky,

That's pretty funny. I guess you're saying my baby needs a new pair of shoes. That's coming soon enough. I was trying to get over my hot rod tendencies but found out that the roadster really doesn't lend itself to that look like a "hot rod" would (had those wheels with new tires in the garage). You know like a gasser or 3 window coupe would have.

Well, I've got some serious suspension adjustments to make when I do change the tires and wheels. But the stance should be much better when that happens.

I haven't been on a run with the group yet but hope to after I get a few more trouble free miles under my belt!

Thanks, WEK.

OK Lucky, Put some new shoes on the baby! I'm getting a lot of looks and comments with primer. Can't imagine what it will be like with paint! Past about twenty kids at a school bus stop and they all pulled the phones out. They ranged from 12 to 16, I guess. It's fun breaking up the routine traffic scene. See you later, WEK.

Hey MesaMike,

Does anything look familiar?
