31 Spline Half Shafts [Archive] - Factory Five Forums

Hi Everyone,

I am currently collecting parts for an IRS roadster build with the Ford Coyote engine and would like some help locating some half shafts. What I have so far are the Ford racing IRS knuckles, IRS hubs, the center section, and a Torsen 31 spline diff.

If I remember correctly the hubs are 28 spline. I can't recall the information I dug up, because it has been so long, but I thought there were 31 to 28 spline half shafts available.

What have you used for your build and where did you purchase them? How well have they held up? I would like to compile a list here in this thread for future reference too. Thank you! :cool:

Unless you want to pay for custom stubs to be made, you will have to get the 31 spline axles from a 2003-04 Cobra with IRS and swap the shafts with the proper ends to make it work. Unless somebody has started offering these, they can be hard to find- I know from experience.
Make sure the Torsen is set up to use the spring retainer clips that the IRS axles use to retain the axle in the spider gears. I believe you need to get a special Torsen or a kit to make this work, but I'm not sure anymore.

I am using the Torsen 31 spline diff from Summit and 5 bolt IRS hubs I think are Ford racing and purchased the new longer halfshafts from FFR. They all fit together fine but I don’t know what the number of splines are on the hubs. The halfshafts were $125 plus shipping.

Thanks Bill! I was hoping that someone else had the same set up as I was planning. I bought my Torsen 31 spline and IRS hubs from Ford Racing. If I remember correctly the hubs that they sell are 28 spline and hence the issue I have.

I did all the legwork about a year and a half ago but I'm just now getting back into sourcing parts. Thank you for your help!
