Honest question because I'm curious (NOT criticizing in the slightest): Why the open area in the floor of the cockpit? There is a floor directly underneath where I think the gas tank will be located, and one underneath the foot well, but the space underneath the seats is curiously open (structural bracing aside). Anyone have any ideas as to why??

Complete guess, but maybe due to the seat mounts/rails it made more sense production wise to leave them open and put aluminum panels over the bottom later? Or maybe just to help out with actual assembly.

Is anyone else assembling their car in their heads looking at these photos? Heh.

My guess since I do not have mine yet is:
A:There will be sheet aluminum under the seat (99.5% sure of that as the car is flat bottomed)
B: the 02-04, 05 and 06/07 seats mount differently from each other so there will be different seat mounting points needed.

Looking at this picture, anyone think it might be wise to use a little sound deadening material on the floor and maybe some other key areas? It's a roadster of course, so I'm not talking about keeping noise out. I'm sure we've all been in stripped out cars before and you get that "tin-can" effect when road debris like gravel hits the floor and wheel wells.

the stock seat mounts are waaaay too high so some alternative needs to be provided... I have some rails that lift my trike's Cerullo seats only about 3/4 from the floor vs the 5-6 inches for the stock WRX seats

You guys are right. There is an aluminum panel that goes there but makes the seat easier to install and weighs less. Steel under the fuel tank for debris/etc.
