I guessing this is probably something we all know, but headers can cook spark plug wires. There was a recent thread about some Ford Racing wires deteriorating and I'm not sure what the outcome of that was, but recently while running my go-kart to get some time on the engine, I noticed that there was some smoke coming from the sides of the heads. At first, I thought it was some seepage from the valve covers burning off, but those were dry when I checked it after the engine cooled down. What I did notice, though, was that the underside of a couple of the wires that were near the headers had started to blister. So, that smoke was actually the oil in the spark plug wires burning off.
Needless to say, I made a couple new wires and then added boot insulators to all eight - cheap insurance.
