Hey guys,

How many of you remember the Arntz Cobra on the cover of the June 1980 Hot Rod? I was just getting out of the Air Force and was a diehard Chevy guy. Nonetheless, when I saw that cover on the newsstand, the heavens parted, the angels sang, and I thought that one day I might drive something that cool. The intervening years haven't extinguished the dream.

Dave Smith is right. We build these cars for important reasons but community has to rank at the top of the list. If it's going to be just another thing sitting around gathering dust, why bother? But the driving experience, and the fellowship of like-minded people, makes this something I will have to do.

I've accumulated a pile of Mustang parts over the years and discovered that I have most of what I need. I'm hoping to start the journey in the near future.

Thanks to all who have made this a great forum.

Welcome to the forum and your dream. What do you plan for your build?

Thanks for your greeting.

I have a forged 306 shortblock, GT40P heads and intake, and misc. other 5.0 engine parts. Drivetrain parts consist of an older version T56 and some Mark VIII stuff (alum. diff. ,spindles, and brakes). I have fresh 99-04 Mustang front brakes and a new Fluidyne radiator. As you can see I've gotten a good start.

My wife and I passed through your neck of the woods a while back on the way to the March Meet in Bakersfield.

Hey Miles,

Welcome. If you want to check out a roadster and go for a ride there are plenty of us in the area. I'm down in Spanaway. Also check out the Northwest forums at www.clubcobra.com (http://www.clubcobra.com) and www.ffcars.com (http://www.ffcars.com).

Bruce,

I would be interested in taking a ride with someone from the area. I've had fast Mustangs (and really fast motorcycles) but I've yet to ride in, or drive, a Roadster. Spanaway is kind of a haul but I'm willing if we can work around everyone's busy lives.

Madness, indeed.

Thankfully my wife understands that this is a psychosis I've had since childhood and she is totally on board.

Miles,

Let me know if you're in the area. Also, don't forget to post in the Northwest forums on clubcobra and ffcars. Also the Pacific Northwest Historics is coming up and there will be many Cobras present. It's a fun event. There is a post on ClubCobra and FFcars started by Tony (http://www.ffcars.com/forums/28-northwest-region/303374-2013-pnw-historics-race-cobra-corral-ticket-informantion.html).

Bruce,

Thanks for the heads up. I've been a lurker for several years so I'm familiar with most of the Cobra sites but more inside info is always good.

I don't know if I'll get down your way any time soon but I will certainly be at the Historics. Perhaps we will cross paths there.

Oh, I forgot to mention. My Mark IV production date is June 22. It will continue to feel like a dream until the truck actually comes down my street.

Thanks to my wife for kicking me in the backside and saying, "Just order the car!"

Miles,

"Just order the car!" Sounds familiar but some great advice.

Hopefully I'll see you at the Historics.
