In my recently completed MK IV I appear to be dripping transmission fluid from the speedometer sending unit in the T-5. The unit appears to be capable of accepting either a cable driven speedometer or in my case an electronic signal to drive the speedometer. Has anyone experienced the open port in the sending unit designed to drive the cable dripping fluid? That port has an O ring and a clip ready to accept the cable but is it necessary to fill that port to contain drips? This is not a huge drip but in 1000 miles I replenished 8oz of fluid.
Thanks in advance for any insights.

There are two versions of the sending unit (VSS). One with a mechanical cable drive and one without. Both send an electrical pulse. Sounds like you are using the one with the cable drive but without the cable installed. They're not designed to work this way, and will leak. I've seen various posts with guys trying to plug. Just get the right part. They aren't that expensive. Standard Motor Products SC37 or equivalent. Available at NAPA and probably other retail stores. Also available at Summit, Breeze, etc. You will also need a gear and clip, but probably can just use them off your old sensor. Which gear you use isn't super critical since you can calibrate MPH at the speedometer.

Thanks much. I assumed there was something missing or needed added to my unit.
